Darrelle Revis Rumors and Speculation

I am starting to think that the Browns' supposed interest in Revis may be a negotiation ploy to get Hayden to sign an extension. They are currently negotiating with him and if they sign Revis, his leverage with the team becomes weaker.

I suggested the Revis to Browns thing last night. Makes a tonne of sense.

I don't know how it makes tons of sense when they already have Hayden. It would be like buying a Lamborghini when you already have a Ferrari. Yeah, having both would be awesome, but isn't like you need the Lamb when you have a perfectly good Ferrari to drive every day especially when you have other needs to fill.

Revis is a pipe dream. If the Pats said we'll give you one year at 10M to come win a championship or even 5/50 with 18M in bonus money up front and the Jags came in and offered him only a modest increase of 5/55 with 18M upfront he'd go to the crappy team and take the money. Never mind the fact a franchise that's close will offer him more.

Because you can only drive one car at a time but you have two cornerbacks on the field at the same time.

And how many rich people do, in fact, have a Ferrari and a Lamborghini? Probably quite a few. And the Browns are cap rich and can afford the luxury.

We really have to stop playing this mind reader Revis game. Since we already know what he's going to do, should the pats even play the "due dillegence" game. After all, its meant to find out where the heads of the player/team and since everybody here seems to know exactly where his head is at...

Oh really? You spoke to revis? Cool

Yeah, but are you going to pay a #2 CB elite #1 money. The Browns are flush with money, but they are barren with talent in a lot of areas. Sure they can throw a lot of money at the secondary and go the next three seasons with losing records losing games 0-3 or 3-6 every week.

It just isn't this year. They need to build for the future. They are probably two or three years away from being a legitimate contender. Revis may be on the wrong side of 30 by then. If they were a team that were a few pieces away from a Super Bowl run and had this much cash, it would make sense. But other than LT and #1 WR (who is up for a big deal next year), I can't think of a position they are all set on the offensive side.

If the Browns pay elite CB money to both Hayden and Revis, they are almost doomed to be a middle of the pack team for the foreseable future. Which means that the Browns will end up doing it.

The patriots should give the bucks a fourth round pick that becomes a third round pick for Revis. Make it an incentive laden deal like if the pats makes it to the AFC championship game it becomes a third round pick or how many games Revis plays in etc.

If Bill called Licht and said i'll give you a 3rd and a 6th an hour before they were going to release Revis and it was the best offer they got I'd bet Revis would be a Patriot.

Not like i'm expecting it to happen but until Revis is actually released he has no say on where he goes.

I love when people make posts like this. Obviously we are all speculating but given that Revis has asked to renegotiate and get more money year after year his history says it's about the money.

I read somewhere this morning that the Bucs would settle for a mid to late round pick at this point. I think a fourth or fifth would get the deal done at this point.

The time to act is now before Brady gets too old and our championship window closes. Furthermore, I get this feeling that the broncos are going to sign a big free agent this off season. I just hope the player isn't revis.

But they aren't that barren. They have the #1LT, a top 5 WR, a very good TE, a strong DL and two good OLB and one of the best Cbs. On top of that they have five picks in the first three rounds of the deepest draft in years and 50m in cap space. Add Revis, Ben Tate and a safety in FA and then use your draft picks on a QB, WR and OL and they're in a really strong position providing the QB works out.

And then what? Hi we want you to renegotiate and do 12M\year? Where's the Patriots leverage. I'm sure he would take bonus money to lower this year's cap hit but his AAV would still be 16M which is too high.

Oh really? You spoke to revis? Cool
Last fall, Revis flat out said that he'd rather get $16M from the sucking Bucs rather than $12M from Rex and the Jets. Unless he's had a drastic change of heart (yeah right), then it's pretty clear that he cares about money more than who he's playing for.

Obviously they will and should do their due dillegance. Look at his history and that's why people are speculating that he won't take one nickle less then the top offer.

Exactly. A fourth and a 7th gets it done too. They plan to cut Revis anyways, thus getting nothing for him. Getting something is better than receiving nothing in return.
