Darrelle Revis just got destroyed

Don't you love it

That may be extreme but you can't leave him in man without help very often
Well I think with both Woodsons they could still cover close but vs fast guys they were cooked. Revised is getting to that point very quickly if not there already

Fun fact: despite the fact that the Jets have played 2 games to everybody else's 1, which should help their stats be a bit more stable, they currently rank dead last in the NFL in with 11 yards allowed per passing attempt.

I just peeked into the Revis thread on ganggreen and for once, Patriots and Jets fans seem to agree completely. To summarize their current thinking:

Revis can still play but the "island" days are long gone -- he's lost a lot of speed and must have help over the top. He's not nearly worth his huge contract but is uncuttable because of the cap hit.

The only difference in perspective seems to be the use of the word "unfortunately" in place of "BWAH-hah-hah!"

The thing about Revis though is he is a very smart football players with a great skillset, that is deteriorating.
He can still be an effective corner, but both he and his DC need to understand his limitations. QBs used to ignore the receiver he covered. Now the drill in on any receiver Revis has in man. I actually think he can be effective in using that to his advantage if he handles it mentally and gets a lot of deep help.

I think you've found the right language, Andy. "Effective" under the right circumstances. Definitely not "Good" which would by definition put him in the top 20% in the League.

would an eventual move to safety make sense for revis? maybe do a rod woodson and still be a elite defender at a different position. still jets overpaid and i think they can get out in a year or two

She has a cell phone doesn't she?

Haha in all seriousness, I hope the wife is ok and recovering well. I had to have my appendix cut out and they said if I had waited even 1 more day it would have ruptured

Not fun!

My son had a problem with his appendix 20 years ago, when he was 13. At the time the doctor chose not to do anything about it and nothing has happened since.

I also remember the day my appendix came out and that was 61 years ago.

My folks took me to the doctor, he said some words as he puffed on a smoke at his office desk and I went right from there to the hospital. I can still remember being told to count backwards from 100 as I was heading up the elevator to the operation. I also have a memory of the large room that I mended in along with a bunch of other kids with various afflictions.

You don't think he's in the top 20% of the NFL? I think he is, but he's definitely in the top 1% of the most overpaid.

You think there are less than 13 corners better than him?
12 of 64 starters are the top 20%.
No way.

Well that's unfortunate.

BWAH-hah-hah!

The language used to describe Revis' play in this thread is the same language we used to make ourselves try to feel comfortable with Kyle Arrington on the field in key situations for all those years he was here.

I guess that's a good question. I don't think he's in the top 20% of starters at this point. That would put him in the top 12.

If we look at all CB's, and assume teams average 5 on the roster, that's 160 CB's, right? So he'd have to be one of the top 32. That's a reasonable argument to make, unless the posters here who assert that he can't cover anyone fast or quick anymore are right, in which case he's headed for the bench.

That's a difficult thing to say based off of 1 or 2 games. He could be in the top ten once the season gets going. It looks like he may not be in the best of shape yet. They don't pay him enough to work out in the off-season.

I'm talking about what he is right now. I would say he is a starting caliber, #2 corner, who is probably around the middle of the pack of #2s.

And then we realize that the SOJs are paying Mevis a boatload of Benjamins.

He is what he is. He won't get "better" as the season goes on. I agree with you.

Eh, he could. He is a smart, savvy veteran. I'm sure he can deal with his shortcomings if he accepts them, and play better than he has. He has to accept them first though.

Savvy only gets you so far. He's done covering true number ones. He's gonna take the second or third etc. not what you pay that much knew for.
