  1. Losing Mankins did hurt the team, and it was such a problem that Brady and others had to get BB to address the team about it.
  2. Edelman doesn't fill Welker's shoes. They have different roles and, while I love Edelman, Welker was better at his, IMO. But the issue with Welker leaving was Amendola, not Edelman, and the problem there was always Amendola's health. And we saw that throughout Amendola's time with the Patriots.
And the only two truths are

  1. As long as Brady is Brady...
  2. As long as BB is running the team...

Made the Super Bowl 4 out of last 5 years.

Arguably the greatest 5 years in Patriots history. A win on Sunday ends the argument comparison to the Pats of 2001-2004.

You can close your eyes and proclaim all day that "The Patriots were hurt by the August 26, 2014 Mankins trade". History guffaws.

Neither Mankins nor Welker were on either the 2001-2004 nor the 2014-2018 Pats. Those guys were great players in the middle/lesser period of the Dynasty. Amendola is not on this year's team.

In the meantime (and back to the issue), unwarranted certitude about a young players' future is worthless.

The Patriots lost not one step by the Mankins trade.

Still love Logan and Wes. Troy and Jules are the champions.

You're making completely nonsensical arguments, and you're smart enough to know that.

Subjective response to clearly objective points.

It is what it is.

.

Not at all. You didn't make an intelligent argument.

Brady popped his ACL in 2008. That obviously hurt the team. But, using your logic

Made the Super Bowl 4 out of last 5 years.

????????

Dear Lord, I should have listened to Fnord......

.

Or you could just not try arguing that problems overcome are the same as problems not existing.

Either way.

Etling is not the QBOTF
Says who? Some know it all on a message board?

Etling probably isn't the next starter but we don't know that. He's a hard worker, fairly mobile and has a good arm; he had more problems with short and medium throws than long throws in camp. Will he get consistently excellent mechanics to gain the necessary consistency throwing? Who knows. But he's not some schmuck who can't throw, he does have an NFL arm.

"It happened that one time out of a million" = Nice story
"It happened that one time out of a million" <> This is now the approach to take and the expectation to have

Point taken. Was just saying that one should not be writing off anybody even with a .999 batting average.

No I get Deus's point here. Imagine if we won the Super Bowl in 2011 with one of the worst pass defenses of all time. You can't call Deus pessimistic and argumentative for saying the pass defense is garbage just because they overcame that weakness. Idk. Maybe I should just mind my own bidniss

It's a great story

however, he will not be with the patriots come week 1 of 2019

You must mean week 1 = game 1 next September
Can he spend another year on the practice squad?

My take is we simply cannot know until late next summer.
I guess that is why I was eager to share the article.

The discussion was about the concept of certitude.

Honestly, no one knows what will happen. Some people pretend they do (and have been for a long time) and make statements of certitude, no matter their track record.

I think, and not to speak for Deus here, but I think we all know we can't say anything with 100% certitude. Otherwise we'd have to prefix everything we say with "In my opinion.." it's kind of already understood to be an opinion. Deus saying "He's not the QBOTF" is obviously just an opinion.

Indeed, says someone who's posting his opinion on an internet forum that's designed for people to post their opinions.

If Brady had missed a game this year, Hoyer would have been that 'next starter'. Now, you're welcome to believe the Etling's the QBOTF, and not just a potential placeholder. History is against you, but maybe Etling will turn his play around enough to be the exception. If he does, that'll be great.

But I've heard about the past QBs being that guy, and we're still here, waiting for Brady's successor. And none of Etling's predecessors post-Brady

Davey
Kingsbury
Cassel
O'Connell
Mallett
JAG
Brissett

has been that QBOTF*.

*Whether JAG could have been was made irrelevant by his being traded.

Deus saying "He's not the QBOTF" is obviously just an opinion.

My personal experience suggests otherwise, which is why I don't know why you guys bother arguing with him.

I also disagree that everything stated here has 'in my opinion' implied as a default. I think there's plenty of times when people are saying things like "Cutting that player was stupid" or "They mismanaged their roster" as what they believe is a statement of fact.

I don't think he is. But I'm not misguided enough to claim that I know for sure either way.

You offer opinions with frequency, so shut the hell up about "claim to know".
