Danny Amendola Appreciation Thread

Welker had one horrific non-catch but he put it all on the line and made some great clutch plays for the team over several years. And he did that while redefining a position. That being said, you have every right to your feelings of course.

well, the fact is, he was a great regular season player like logan mankins, but that was it. they were both massive disappointments when postseasons rolled around.

welker can’ t hold edelman’s jock, essentially.

And I'd like to add how grateful I am to have Amendola back there receiving punts.

Like the kicker it's really high mental pressure, but with the added degree of difficulty that you have to make snap decisions that can seriously impact the game while there are players out there trying to kill you if you elect not to fair catch. Amendola makes it all look routine.

This year he's been a bit more cautious on returning punts but I suspect that is by instruction not inclination. The Pats usually want to go for the low variance option, which means if in doubt, fair catch it.

(Which reminds me of the hidden yards other teams give up by electing to return too many kicks out of the end zone. The kick returners want glory and nobody dings them sufficiently for the five or seven yards they repeatedly give up).

Amendola is such an interesting player. He was brought in, seemingly as the Weker replacement but that never materialized. For a while he wasn't so much considered to live up to his expectations and Edelman took over the Welker role.

Danny has had average stat sheets for a few regular seasons but boy does he show up in the clutch as much as anybody. He has been a significant factor in the biggest playoff games. Reliable target. Love having him here. So valuable.

In 15 playoff games, JE had 68 yds/g with 5 TDs catching 64% of his targets.

In 13 playoff appearances, WW had 67 yds/g with 5 TDs catching 76% of his targets.

DA in 11 playoff games averages 43 yds/g with 4 TDs catching 69% of his targets.

except this play:

12/15/2013 vs. dolphins:

there were playoff implications to that dropped catch--the patriots lost to the dolphins, ended up 12-4 and the 2nd seed in the playoffs instead of 13-3 and the 1st seed, had to travel to denver in the AFC championship where we all know what happened.

.

Catch or not, Patriots would'v been obliterated like Denver was in the SB.

WW was a great player. Slow your roll a bit.

And this is about DannyAMENdola.
