Curran's reporting on Mayo being the next head coach

Curran is super weird in this video. He is basically saying "this is the coach and this is the GM because I said so, and I don't even want to talk about other options because I just know better."
He definitely makes it sound like it’s a done deal and he knows more but wont share what it is, doesnt he? What do you know about Eliot Wolf? I’ve heard his name plenty but never seen articles or heard about what he’s done to deserve a shot.

What is taking so long for Belichick to "step down"? Hurry the F up Kraft.
Bill is doing what a smart business man would do - honoring the last year of his contract worth $25M. Bob isn't going to fire him as of right now because he doesn't want to go through a HC search at the age of 82 and pay Bill $25M for no reason. Also, if Bob really wants to get rid of him, he's going to exhaust all options to trade him which Bill probably will reject. And despite that recent article, the Pats somehow were competitive down the stretch and were a nuisance to the majority of their opponents this season. That's not making it easy on Bob.

The Cowboys are the only team to keep an eye on that would be appealing to Bill. If they lose Wild Card Round, I could see Jerry calling up Bob and BB and giving him full control for a 2-3 contract. Other than that, there are no jobs where Bill is better off leaving NE for.

I’ll be pissed if they get rid of Bill, pass on Vrabel, and hire Mayo.

Literal worst case IMO.
Vrabel as HC. Mayo as DC/Assistant HC. Covington as D-Line Coach/Assistant DC. O'Brien as OC (and brings in solid position coaches like he wanted to do, but BB wouldn't allow). And, a hopefully great GM and Scouting Department.

If Mayo gets the nod, he better leverage all of his contacts to out the strongest staff together that he can possibly have. He’s going to need all the help he can get. The media and this fanbase will not be patient with the poor guy.
That will mean Kraft will have to spend a lot of extra money on top of a coach’s contract because he would have to protect that coach because he has no experience.
On top of that there is a chance he may need to buy out BB’s contract
That’s a lot of money on coaches

Good thing BB took care of his money for him. There is no salary cap for coaches so go friggin bananas RK. Show us how you roll.

On October 22nd, the NFL Network reported the Pats and Belichick had done a “long term and lucrative “extension in the offseason. Within a couple of hours of that report, Tom Curran was on NBCBoston’s pregame show and contested that report saying his understanding was that Belichick was only signed through 2024. Weeks later the NFL Network “insider” who broke the “long-term, lucrative “ report corroborated Curran’s understanding that Belichick was only signed through 2024. That Belichick’s contract only runs through 2024 is pretty much an unchallenged fact at this point.

That Curran was right on such a pertinent fact. One that only the Krafts and Bill likely knew kind of gives him some credibility that he indeed has a source. It would have been very easy for ownership to refute Curran’s “the decision was made after the Germany game report”. But, the Krafts have been as quiet as church mice since.

You don’t even need to be an insider to believe Jerod Mayo is likely to be Bill’s successor. His imminent resigning was mentioned in the Pats letter to their season ticket holders last offseason. Bob Kraft even referred to Mayo as the “heir apparent “ in an interview with Judy Batista of NFL media at a league meeting last year.

Curran was also the Kraft’s mouthpiece in their tepid and too late pushback on Deflategate.

I guess contracts are meaningless documents in your sphere
You're catching on.

If BB quits, Kraft owes him nada for breach of contract. If BB leaves only a fool would want to hold BBs staff hostage when Kraft could simply let them tear the contract up and allow them to move on.

In regards to my sphere, contracts are meant to broken and with the right lawyer you can get out of anything.

I've got nothing against Mayo, but this is hard for me to root for.

Kraft worries too much about money for that to happen.

If your a billionaire and could get a $2000 escort delivered to your house but choose the $100 special that is between a Chinese restauraunt and Pawn shop that speaks volumes.

I'll be dancing in the street if they get rid of Tyrannosaurus Bill. And if any former player of college guy takes his place it'll be a bonus.

I can't wait for football to be fun again.

He simply is not ready yet, he probably will be ready someday. But the Rooney Rule-prompted interview requests last year, combined with Kraft (naively) pumping him up, have created an unrealistic situation that could backfire badly on Mayo and the franchise.

I can understand Kraft's sentiments about Mayo but expressing them publicly was premature. He likely figured BB would comfortably surpass Shula's record, groom Mayo in the process then retire/ride off into the sunset. Then the 4-13 disaster occurred throwing a monkey wrench into the works, compounded by Vrabel coming available. If Mayo gets the job over Vrabel, Flores and a few other much more qualified candidates I will not be happy.

He could have been doing multiple escorts in various price ranges.

I don’t think he’s ready yet either. Bill and other players rave about how smart Mayo is. If he’s that smart then he should know that being the DC and calling the defensive plays on Sundays will be beneficial to him becoming a head coach.

Carolina released a list of eight names they were going to interview, Mayo’s name wasn’t on it. There is a reason for that.

Bill and Bob could be striking a deal where Bill stays as HC and they bring in a GM or hire Wolf. Wouldn’t that be something after all the pages used here on him leaving also in the media. LOL!

Plot twist time:
- Mayo as HC
- BB as GM
- PatsFans.com servers melt

Belichick moving upstairs would be terrible for the franchise. He’s still a great coach, but he should have no say on personnel anymore. It also doesn’t make much sense if he still wants to coach, and wants to reach Shula’s record. I think Curran’s right, if Belichick is out then Mayo will be the next head Coach.

He’s arguably the most successful NFL owner ever. He’s hired three coaches, all of whom won Super Bowls, and the patriots have won six Super Bowls, as we know. That’s an odd take.

As for Mayo, I think it’s strange to disqualify someone because they maybe learned from Bill Belichick, one of the greatest coaches ever. Weird times here.

First paragraph is great. Second not so much.

I'm hoping Bob makes the right decision. His track record is outstanding but this one's tricky. My only gripe will be if he goes cheap with a new group or keeps Bill, who's clearly cooked.

With the good will that the team built up I'm willing to give any new coach some slack. It may take some time to fix things but that sh!t eatin' grin still comes across my face when I think of the Dynasty years. It'll be a long time before it's gone.
