Curran:Brady's receivers well covered

Hernandez and Woodhead were wide open quite a bit today, and today was the probably the worst game the wide receivers have had all year. Brady simply didn't play well today, and BOB has been a disgrace all year long. Check, his entire career has been a disgrace.

Your posts have made it pretty obvious that you're just tossing crap at a wall and hoping it sticks. This one is no different.

Because Brady played so well today, right? He was beyond reproach.

From earlier in the thread:

This is simply not true. Brady hasn't been perfect, and he missed some easy connections in the Jets game, but you are one of the many here who are demanding perfection when it's not possible.

As I stated, you're just tossing crap at a wall and hoping it sticks. The fact that you brought O'Brien into this thread demonstrated that pretty clearly.

I love how Moss is suddenly a 12 foot gridiron warrior who runs a 4.1, ****s Volvos and with a "can do" attitude.

Moss did NOTHING in NE this year.

Moss did NOTHING with the Vikings this year.

Moss will do NOTHING with the Titans moving forward.

He was a wonderful player in his prime. One of the best ever. But his prime years are squarely in the rear view mirror of life and will never return. Move on, people.

The Patriots offense was a lot more effective with Moss on it than it is now...

Moss was drawing coverage in New England.

Moss was drawing coverage in Minnesota.

Moss will draw coverage in Tennessee.

To say that's nothing is just to ignore the obvious.

My point is that receivers don't have to be wide open for passes to be completed. Does it help to have someone like Greg Jennings who is almost impossible to cover 1 on 1? Absolutely. But if you take a look at some of the completions made against McCourty today as an example. It's not like McCourty wasn't on his guy, it's just that the ball was placed where the receiver could make a play. It's like all the completions thrown against Wilhite or Guyton. Those guys are always on their receivers but just can't make plays on the ball or just a step behind.

Brady's balls this year just hasn't had the timing or touch. And recently, he's just not taking any chances past 15 yards unless his guys are wide open.

dont think there are players running 15 yards. and when brady did take a chance like you said on a longish pass in tight coverage on tate he dropped the ball right between the #s. the quick step drop timing routes work when the receivers can break and be open at the right time and i dont think its happening. not to mention the oline protection was inconsistent as well. brady didnt play well but every missed throw or throw out of bounds was not just because of him. receivers need to be somewhat open and also catch the ball. only branch has some sync with him but him on a bad hammy is not as effective. that leaves wes and tate

if the pats had traded moss in the offseason and worked on their offense without him all the time ,maybe they wouldve fixed their holes and improved. mid season trade or injury effects your offense esp when someone was part of your offensive system for so long and the rest of the crew is relatively new or are rookies.

Meh. There was a time when Randy was drawing double coverage AND producing loads of yards and touchdowns.. This year he's drawing the double coverage and really not producing all that much.

And how long does he continue to draw those coverages? How long before some daring, enterprising DC decides this guy isn't what he was before? Odds are sooner rather than later.

Next year hopefully they either get a WR in FA or draft someone capable of being "that guy". But that won't be transpiring this year. I'm more concerned with the team solving the problems they can solve now rather than pining away for Randy Moss.

I know. Yes, he draws coverage. Yes, it makes things easier. But unless the team plays well and executes, they don't win with or without him. They were a total disaster in every phase of the game yesterday. Anyone who thinks Moss being here erases the L is nuts. If anything, you probably get him pissing and moaning after an embarrassing loss and making things worse.

It's time to start thinking of other ways to stretch the field without Randy Moss. We lost with him on the team too. Quite a bit in the last couple years.

I think everyone knows he isn't what he was before. He used to draw double coverage and still make plays. Now he can't do that. That is a pretty big fall off from where he was. It is a much bigger fall off if he can't produce against single coverage and I'm not sure anyone believes that. BB who saw him everyday in practice certainly didn't based on the way he defended him.

Welker isnt 100%, coming off such a major knee injury hes lucky to even be playing at this point in the season. At first many were saying he wouldnt be back until atleast midseason. His problem this year is that defenses have been jamming him at the line and making it difficult for him to get off the line. I would think having a bad knee would effect his speed and power of getting off the line.

Is that knee on the leg he kicked the PA with?

If Branch can't get more separation than he's getting, it may be time to just toss Mr. Price into the pool and see if he can tread water.

I wouldn't be totally against that. Or just signing someone, anyone off the street. Branch needs a couple weeks to rest IMO, doesn't seem very effective right now.

Plus Welker and Edelman are still banged up it looks

Packers receivers aren't having much trouble getting open tonight, just for one, very current, example, and the coverage hasn't made much difference.
To be fair, Dallas gave up playing football several weeks ago. I think your point is valid but the Pack/Cowboy game isn't a great example.

How often do you see guys running around wide open when other teams are playing man coverage? Maybe if it's a blown coverage, yeah. Playing against zone defenses you see guys wide open when they find holes in zones.

Maybe you're confusing NFL games for college games. The games on Saturdays are college games.

Did you watch the Eagles - Colts game? Look at what a difference having a deep threat does. Maclin and Jackson were facing man often, but since the safeties were so deep they could get open.

Same goes for the Colts on the other side of the ball, there is plenty of space and separation for those receivers and tight ends to work in - against man or zone.

Or, more simply, did you watch any of our first 4 games this season? I mean, come on - that's a silly statement. I watch 4 games of NFL football a week, I can definitively say the Patriots receivers are struggling to get open comparative to the other games I am watching - by a distinct and disturbing margin.

The offense was drastically better with him here...coincidence?

Not to mention we have to re-work the entire offense mid-season now.

And when he tried to hit them in those instances they dropped them...or fumbled them. Passing game is all about rhythm and this group is so inconsistent it's tough to build any some days. Zolak noted last night that Brady and the OL were not struggling with deciphering Mangini's defense so much as the receivers were. They weren't adjusting correctly to what was being done, they were over reacting to initial reads and not finding the openings as a result. That's a sign of lack of experience/focus and/or lack of film study.

Wes was being chipped at the LOS by a LB or safety and then he is not even getting into his route running.

Deion has been running on 1 leg and teams are comfortable putting a CB 1 on 1 knowing he is playing injured

Tate is a basically a rookie and to expect him to carry the load is too much.

Today mangini gambled and played his safety in the box and letting his LB to blitz or run blitz knowing the safety got the RB if they loose him.Look for more teams to just bring 8 guys knowing branch is not going to beat him man and chip wes so he is out.

also crowding the middle means the TE have no space to operate. i am suprised that brady hasn`t been intercepted more.
