Wouldn't a QB with a year playing experience have a better chance of success then one with a year watching?

The one with a year watching would get to learn the offense without the pressure of being destroyed. Better knowledge, composure and confidence so he can concentrate on other things.

If you go back in time, it was a rule of thumb that it takes five years to groom a QB. Overstated, sure but...Brady had a year, Carson Palmer didn't play, Kitna did, for a year. Aaron Rodgers, lots of prep.

Peyton was ready, but the exception IMO. Luck could be another Plunkett at this point, who knows.

Of course it would take pages to list all the first round QBs forced in who flopped.Tampa's got a lot invested in winston. why flip a coin whether he catches up to the league or defenses catch up to him.

Meanwhile a mediocrity like Fitzgerald is outplaying and starting ahead of tons of 1st rounders, just because he's relaxed and comfortable.

I think it's absolutely true. A high percentsge of QBs are thrown in and fail where thery might have succeeded, given time to develop comfort and confidence.

I agree.Firing whisenhunt makes no sense when he had just 5 starts with mariota around a bad team. What does firing him get the titans ? nothing.

Dan Campbell has Miami team playing better than clueless Philbin.

Perhaps Tennessee ownership thinks Mariota can play a little better without a HC with just 3 wins.

The guy took over a dumpster fire of a team that had a garbage starting QB. That garbage QB got hurt, giving way to QBs who were even worse. Then, in year two, he ends up with a rookie QB who's got to learn how to play the position because his college games were in the spread.
