Covington out?

At the risk of getting roasted on here: The guy who called the In-Game Defensive Plays for the Patriots, which despite substantial injuries the year before, boasted a Top 10 Defense, was not offered the position of DC. It was instead given to the guy that didn't call the In-Game Defensive plays for a Top 10 Defense riddled with injuries. Was this a case of "Reverse Racism". Covington was the DL Coach and didn't call the plays (and it seems as Mayo didn't call the plays either, yet he's promoted to HC). I'm just throwing that out there. Can I be the only person on here that hasn't pondered that possibility?

Reverse racism is just click bait. It’s either racism or it’s not. In this case I’m guessing no, but could be following DEI protocol. Which that in itself is its own thing. Mayo picked his own guys … as he absolutely should !!! … nothing to see here
What Vic said....there is no such thing. Racism is racism. C'mon, you guys are better than that. =)

I was sitting here in my recliner playing Meteor Strike and all of a sudden it came to me that labeling steve b as having touerettes may be way off. People with touerettes have facial ticks, grunt, and will yell vulger languege involuntarily.Plus it doesn't come and go, it seems that the only tive steve b makes those facial gyrations is when hes under the stress of making defensive calls on the sidelines, on game day. So i don't know what the issue is for sure.
Who knows, man. We're all just slingin' stuff around and making comments off the cuff.

I've busted BB Jrs chops on this board but I think the kid knows what he's doing.

In his first year at UofW as DC they improved in every significant statistical category defensively.

Mayo was playing politics.
My nephew went to school with both Brian and Steve B. he said Brian was definitely the smarter of the two. Although he added that Steve was more the party animal which could have had something to do with it.

It was Stephen who was nailed with dope in the Gillette Stadium parking lot.

He was 19 so no need to hold that against him.

Who isn't on the spectrum? Name one poster on PatsFans not on the spectrum. Be honest.
Posting on the internet activates everyone's latent Assbergers syndrome. The reality is that no one has perfect mental health, everyone is on the spectrum of some sorts. Social media has done a number on the mental health of the nation.

I say, "everyone limps". Quick and easy.

Not officially diagnosed? I thought you said you were married. I am confident your wife has diagnosed you.
Married 29 years. 3 kids.

My wife says i'm on the spectrum as I don't see the world like she does and shes normal. Maybe that's the attraction.

I wouldn't be surprised if I was tested and on the spectrum. The point @Stu Pidassle's made because of out interactions with technology, etc. it does surface those traits more often.

He may be even more deserving of being let go than was Mayo, which is quite the statement.

Peas in a pod. Mayo's inability to help Covington make needed adjustments, not only in games but between them, was telltale.

Covington was worse than Mayo.
No way in hell the D should've been this bad.
And like Mayo, he obviously wasn't ready.
Both those guys could be decent coaches someday but not anytime soon.
They need to get with the right situation where they can learn. And both need to step back from those positions, obviously.
Nobodts gonna give Mayo a DC job now after how the D sucked so bad. He needs to go back to position coach, under a quality HC, and slowly work his way up and pay his dues. He's years away from even being a DC at this point.
Covington is younger and is more likely to get hired by someone as a position coach.
A long, slow climb for both.

Mayo was playing politics as Pats fans slowly got stoned

Sounds like it based on this tweet coming from the team. Don’t remember any other announcement about his or AVP’s future with the team.

Just to be clear, Mike Dussault - a good guy and former PatsFans forum member - in no way, shape or form speaks for the Patriots about anything, ever.

He is a writer expressing his own personal opinions, no different than any other columnist doing the same.

This should NOT be construed as a tweet 'coming from the team'.

Honestly the Covington hire was almost as criminal as the Mayo hiring. The fact that SB was passed over makes it so. The more we hear about the dysfunction this past year, the angrier I get. This all should have never happened. The only one to blame is the dude at the top. That said, I am glad it's over and do not think it can get much worse with an experienced HC running things.

I 100% believe Mayo chose Covington partially because he was the black one, and partially because if the unit did well, he couldn’t take credit for it.
