Hi Tommy. Im a MA resident and was a registered Republican here up until Donald Trump. I hate his arrogance and narcissism. Its repugnant to me. That doesn't mean that im a big fan of the Democrats. Until Trump I thought they were the biggest hypocrites of all......and the news networks with their nightly "we got Trump this time" reporting complete with 2 or 3 anti Trump guests that's been non stop for the past 3 years got me to not even bothering to watch. This time though Trump has Trumped his own outrageousness. Think for yourself man. You're a talking point parrot. I haven't seen an original thought out of you since this started.

Thank you for your thoughts.

If he thinks he is saving the economy by letting our medical institutions get overwhelmed during a spiking pandemic, he is a moron. The economy will be badly affected regardless.
Completely true.

He is just choosing the path of allowing the pandemic to spiral further out of control while still tanking the economy.

He has medical experts telling him the consequences of certain decisions and advising him on what to do. He is not doing what he thinks is right. He is doing what he hopes will help him get re-elected.

And if he truly thinks he is doing what is best for the country by lifting social distancing policies he belongs in a mental institution not the Oval Office.
I believe the actual policies that are put in place are what he believes to be the right decisions for the country. All the cheerleader, "Everything is just terrific!" remarks are him trying to appear in control and win favor for reelection. Most of that I can easily dismiss, but I won't defend him on the absurd packed-churches-on-Easter thing.

So now you're hoping the virus thins the Mass population? I have family in Mass you POS.

No, I'm hoping people have moved out of the state since the last census. C'mon man.

Wut?

Snipped or edited- what does that have to do with the fact that Biden is absolutely not fit to become POTUS.

And lordy... that shirt just won't go away!

Yo Dr. Strange, are you a Russian bot?

I'm not a bad guy. I may stubborn in what I believe in, but wishing death on people with different political views...no way.
I just wish you could see through some ****. Like if you are a big Trump supporter, fine whatever. But when it gets to the point of him putting our country in jeopardy it goes beyond just politics.

Thanks for the tip. I might indeed look it up.

I think of my country. We were founded on division (I am French first language) of culture and language. In fact, the Brits tried to kill off my ancestors by deporting them on wooden ships throughout the Atlantic and seizing their farms. Yet, despite that, we seem to be far less divided than the “United” States...

You guys might really be four countries living as one (Northeast, Midwest, Pacific, South).
Come on man, don't fool yourself, everyone hates the french.

Je plaisante

Somebody said it correctly here when they said this was not politics at all, but we are dealing with a personality cult here.

David Roth, formerly an editor at Deadspin, is a goddamn national treasure, and everything he writes is worth reading.

America’s Diseased Politics

It has always been clear that Trump’s singular and obliterating narcissism opened some uniquely dark avenues of possibility. But it is one thing to know that Trump would do anything to avoid responsibility and maintain power and quite another to confront the outer boundaries of that possibility. A pandemic that threatens to unmake what is left of American civil society and cause massive suffering and death is real to him mostly as a series of numbers that he wants to see move in various directions; the disease is the thing that has soured his television-watching experience, and if it weren’t on TV, it’s safe to say that he would neither know nor care about it. When his administration could have begun preparing for the pandemic, Trump mostly didn’t know about it; it was a thing that was happening in China, on television. When it arrived in earnest and began killing Americans, Trump told weird lies and reeled off yards of oafish spin and generally wrote various whopping rhetorical checks against a badly overdrawn account. The problem was on TV by then, but he believed that he could manage it, also on television, with bluff and bluster. He still does.

Although very useful we need to be careful over So Korea data. First, the virus has mutated and very little is known about it, but here it is affecting more younger people than anywhere else (albeit still smaller). Also, I read the population in So Korea is much older than in the US.
If the US population is younger than South Korea, that’s a positive for us.

We could try to discuss viruses mutating, but I think that’s out of our range...it is for me other than what I read. I do have a lot of hope in what this scientist is forecasting

“The US will see a turning point in the battle to contain coronavirus sooner than expected, according to the Nobel laureate who correctly predicted when China would get through the worst of its crisis.”

There's a cult in America. Who is at the head of this cult and who you think the members are varies depending on your point of view. But many of us could likely agree that there is a cult, we just think the other ones are in it.
Well said.
Let me put it this way - it's hard to form a truce with people who would not-so-secretly love to watch my side of the aisle be put in jail/concentration camps to protect the white nationalist view of this country.

I would absolutely, on day 1, be protesting if people on the right were put in jails for their beliefs. I seriously doubt that's a common sentiment from people who wear 'Better Russian than a Democrat' t-shirt.
It's nice you would protest if those you disagreed with were jailed, but the rest of what you said is the actual reason for the divide. If we continue to characterize the other side by their absolute worst members, we will never narrow the gap. You do realize that white nationalist, Russian-before-democrat crowd is a very small percentage of "conservatives", right? This country would be well served if each side would call out and condemn the nonsense of its extreme, loudmouths rather than let them impact the direction of the party. Very rare that either side does it, sadly.

Ok, but why Easter?
Very unrealistic in my opinion. How about we let cases start to decline & then plan returning to business? Could that happen in 2 weeks which will be about 6 weeks into this?

seems unlikely

There are republicans that aren’t even conservative. Charlie Baker is a good example

I’d say give it at least 4-5 weeks from now and then evaluate the situation and very likely extend it.
