I have been there 3 times but many many years ago...approx 4 days every trip...

The good old days...

I went to a Bock beer fest in Germany. Holy crap. Literally. But the beer tasted great.

There's a cult in America. Who is at the head of this cult and who you think the members are varies depending on your point of view. But many of us could likely agree that there is a cult, we just think the other ones are in it.

Let me put it this way - it's hard to form a truce with people who would not-so-secretly love to watch my side of the aisle be put in jail/concentration camps to protect the white nationalist view of this country.

I would absolutely, on day 1, be protesting if people on the right were put in jails for their beliefs. I seriously doubt that's a common sentiment from people who wear 'Better Russian than a Democrat' t-shirt.
I’m not from the US and your reply makes me sad.

Most of the people I know vote according to their likes. They’ll vote for different parties depending on the year and the candidates. I haven’t voted conservative on the national level for quite some time - for different reasons - but provincially they’ve been my choice for the better part of a decade.

As a school kid, Reagan took almost the entire country. And Clinton had a whole bunch of “Red States” on his side... it wasn’t that long ago.

I’m 46. And not from your country. So I don’t feel like I have any credible info to share with certainty.

But it surely wasn’t like this before. When I was younger, I seem to remember a time when all Americans were united in most of the important principles. Caring for your neighbour, right vs wrong, fighting the difficult but necessary battles. Liars, regardless of their political beliefs, were called out by the majority.

We are VERY far from perfect. But just to give an example : our craziest politician (arguably) is the Premier of Ontario. He is a conservative. He praised our Prime Minister and his second in command (liberals) about how things are being handled. Even “crazy Ford” knew this wasn’t the time to bicker.

Covid is going to kill many (possibly millions) of your citizens. The US might in fact lose more people than all the other countries... it’s sad.

Again, I can’t begin to understand the years of frustration from either side. But I would have thought a pandemic would be time for a truce. Or a “we have an important mission, let’s get through this” mentality...

But Obama.......

When you put measures in place and talk publicly about how you doubt their effectiveness and start to talk about lifting them in the near future, you might as well just not have them at all.

Look at what measures were in place 2-3 weeks ago; those are what you are judging if judging by today's infection numbers. But I am sure that's far too advanced thinking. Fauci and Birx have until Monday to explain this to him :/

I've never given a crap about all the Trump complaining because, hey, they weren't really life and death...just politics...and he's a politician.

This is life and death.

Cuomo wants to know who to let die. Federal government is not responding, except to say "yay we're going to open the country."

This is where his inability to shut up will cost lives. He can't turn it off even when he absolutely needs to.

There are things being left to chance, because nobody's been fool enough to just roll those dice before. But we're fixin' to do it, with New York.

As of this morning Cuomo was saying the Feds gave him 400 ventilators from the national stockpile, tonight Trump says it's 4,000. I wonder if it changed, other than in Trump's talking points.

By the way, we have 20k stockpiled. NY needs 30k. NY had more than 10x the number of cases as anywhere else... it's the area of need *now.* They're hooking up 2 people to a vent as of right now.

Good luck, folks. I don't think Mass residents are going to be on the "nice" list either.

Fear not, Joe’s got this:

BIDEN: "We have to take care of the cure. That will make the problem worse no matter what. No matter what.

Biden was fantastic in that interview, so please, enough with the snipped clips.

The question was about social distancing and the economy. Biden said the economy would bounce back as long as we meet the needs of the most desperate, but the main thing was to flatten the curve and get ahead of COVID - which brings me to your quote, the second sentence of which referred to ending social distancing.

I don’t want to hear a single dumbass try to blame ANYONE other than Trump when **** hits the fan after he scaled back social distancing and encouraged packed churches in the midst of a pandemic.

It’s that bad to have made me desperate to cast a vote for Joe Biden ASAP.

Didn't see this posted. Atlanta's hospitals are now at capacity and the city has instituted a say-in-place order.

No no, pack the churches. The worst is over.

I really start to feel bad for him and how thick it’s getting laid on but every few pages there is a reminder that this is the hill he has chosen, and continues to choose, to die on.

incels don't always make the right choices

Do you think it bothers me that a few folks from the People's Republic of Massachusetts criticize me? As another poster said, you guys are from one of the most anti-trump states in the union. Dems outnumber Reps in Mass 3:1.

I can't even. And his own supporters won't even care that he basically wants to see them die.
In a second interview with Fox that aired Tuesday afternoon, Trump said he offered the holiday as a deadline because “Easter’s a very special day for me.”

“Wouldn’t it be great to have all the churches full?” Trump asked. “You’ll have packed churches all over our country … I think it’ll be a beautiful time.”

Trump wants 'packed churches' and economy open again on Easter despite the deadly threat of coronavirus
As a conservative, that's one of the most idiotic things I've ever heard.

Daily conferences: Every single time, millions of masks, gloves, etc. on their way, ventilators in the 10s of thousands on their way, etc., etc.

Real World: we haven't received jack shyt. Where are they? We're running out! Help us please!!

This has been going on for 2 weeks. This is so pathetic.

It isn’t a conservative/liberal matter. And it is not that way in other countries. This is about an incompetent, self centered dumbass who only has reelection on his mind in the midst of a ****ing pandemic. This is a matter of life and death. Common sense is what we need and this buffoon gives us the opposite of it.

Like someone else said in this thread I now feel the TDS and I do so proudly. He is a half wit who would condemn our country’s health for a few days of the stock market being boosted. It sickens me and should sicken everyone else.

Calls us what we are, one of the top performing states in the country. Education and business thrive here. Dont ever forget our faulking dominance.

How did our country get divided and things become so radicalized?

You’re garbage at math too.

That prestigious education you refuse to disclose has managed to convince you that 60% and 33.5% is a 3:1 ratio.

Meanwhile you mock others because you assume they didn’t get a degree from a college you deem worthy, while you can’t manage basic math and ratios.

Ignorant, arrogant, and a prick. The list is growing!

Great read from a foreign correspondent:

What this crisis reveals about US - and its president

"Nor has the United States offered a model for how to deal with this crisis. South Korea, with its massive testing programme, and Japan have been exemplars. China, too, has shown the advantages of its authoritarianism system in enforcing a strict lockdown, which is especially worrying when the western liberal order looks so wobbly. Hopefully, nobody will forget how officials in China tried to cover up the virus for weeks and silenced whistleblowers, showing the country's ugly autocratic side even as the outbreak was spreading. But whereas Beijing managed to build a new hospital in just 10 days, the Pentagon will take weeks to move a naval hospital ship from its port in Virginia to New York harbour."

"Rather than a coming together, the crisis has demonstrated how for decades Americans have conducted a political version of social distancing: the herd-like clustering of conservatives and liberals into like-minded communities caused by the allergic reaction to compatriots holding opposing political views. Once again, we have seen the familiar two Americas divide, the usual knee-jerk tribalism. Republicans have been twice as likely as Democrats to view coronavirus coverage as exaggerated"

And hopefully fewer electoral votes after the census...
