The US has 5 times the population. Our numbers will be larger. And our death rate is much lower.

Italy's death rate was much lower a few weeks ago as well. Their numbers are spiking massively right now because the number of severe cases has surpassed the number of available hospital beds equipped with ventilators. So their doctors are forced to leave the elderly with less chance of survival to their own fate. Let's hope the social distancing measures in other countries, including the US, start working soon in bending the curve that is growing exponentially right now. Otherwise it will be only a matter of time once the same happens elsewhere.

don't mean to offend Italia n pat patriot, we're not talking about sanitary systems, we're talking about health care. In terms of pandemic preparedness, maybe lousy is too strong of a word, but in terms of preparedness, no one is truly prepared, but Italy does not compare to the US.

The part about older population is true but their healthcare system was nowhere near close to lousy. It has been ranked quite higher than the US for all of the 2000s.

I think it is probably best if we just pump the brakes on the slinging...take any advice as, "thanks for the advice" and move on.

For me, it is about action. People are on edge and it may be a new concept for some thinking "yeah thanks but you ain't telling me what to do".

I know TYT from a sometimes cable tv show and I think a podcast - is that what you're talking about it?

Are you using "...member" of The Young Turks as parallel to saying that Steve Doucey (sp?) is a "member" of Fox and Friends?

Or is there another TYT I don't know about? I know during Ataturk's time c. 100 years ago, TYTs were actually a political entity.

I noticed someone posted the superimposed charts of Italy's responses or lack thereof, and our own. We look like Italy minus 2-3 weeks, basically. But one point was surprising to me: Italy closed their schools and locked down on a national level. Look at the nationwide school closures & lockdown. For Italy, 3/4 and 3/18. Well, you can explain away why we're too stupid to do a nationwide lockdown 2 weeks "ahead" even if we know it's the way to go.

But we still don't have nationwide school closures. They've had that since 3/4.

It's like we're TRYING to beat Italy for worst eventual outbreak.

Unfortunately, Fauci now saying it's not just "meh, can't really contain anyway," we're getting toward where everybody who takes a test is taking a mask and a gown away from an active case's care. Meanwhile, POTUS is ranting about the wasteful habit of throwing away a used mask.

They're not supposed to be re-used.

Fauci backs him up with CDC info on "if you're forced to re-use a mask, here's how..." POTUS goes on a rant at how wasteful we are with masks. (no wonder we cant keep any on hand...)
