You do understand that once enough people are sick (not to mention the drs and nurses getting sick because no protective equipment), the hospitals will be overwhelmed and a lot of people who desperately need treatment won't get it. At which point, the mortality rate with climb substantially. As in Italy where the current mortality rate is around 12 percent.

Why have so many coronavirus patients died in Italy?

the numbers may be a little misleading
But Prof Ricciardi added that Italy’s death rate may also appear high because of how doctors record fatalities.

“The way in which we code deaths in our country is very generous in the sense that all the people who die in hospitals with the coronavirus are deemed to be dying of the coronavirus.

On re-evaluation by the National Institute of Health, only 12 per cent of death certificates have shown a direct causality from coronavirus, while 88 per cent of patients who have died have at least one pre-morbidity - many had two or three,” he says.

Coming from you, that's a compliment. Thank you.

You've caused the Douche in Chief to admit he's rethinking his position on something, all we are missing now is a Pale Horse...

The absurdly long obituaries in Italy would indicate that much more than 12% of them are from the Coronavirus. The Obits were taking up like 5x more space when the deaths were in the 200-300 daily range. Now in the 800 daily range. There’s no major misunderstanding responsible for these numbers.

Naturally I’ll defer to some random poster on Patsfans.com over a scientific advisor to the Italian minister of health.

You’re no doubt far more qualified in this arena

C'mon, man.

The number of confirmed cases is going to jump, as the testing is ramping up. This has been known, and discussed, for some time now.

Yes I know. I was just throwing up a childish rant at the "it's just a flu" guy.

I see the roll out of the 400,000 test kits next week as a promising sign for us as a nation. I understand that means we'll possibly see some scary numbers but it will also mean that we're doing whatever it takes to get out in front of this. So I'm hopeful.

Oh so now these scientific advisors and experts know what they’re talking about? Unless they predict numbers that make you squirm?

One of our experts here looks astonished the numbers that are much more negative then expected

It is really difficult to start to fully understand the situation...
It is horrible, I pray it turns around soon, very soon.

Just to toss in some information, without getting into the politics on any side:

Italy had a lot of specific issues which put it into this position. From the high number of Chinese there (and the Belt and road initiative), to the migrant issues, to the mayor of Florence and his "hug a Chinese" campaign, to the high percentage of people over 65, it was a country with a unique combination of circumstances that put it on this path.
I do not not think these are circumstances that are impacting mainly
Lodi Cremona Bergamo and Brescia

It would have been a promising sign some weeks ago.

Unfortunately, Fauci now saying it's not just "meh, can't really contain anyway," we're getting toward where everybody who takes a test is taking a mask and a gown away from an active case's care. Meanwhile, POTUS is ranting about the wasteful habit of throwing away a used mask.

They're not supposed to be re-used.

Fauci backs him up with CDC info on "if you're forced to re-use a mask, here's how..." POTUS goes on a rant at how wasteful we are with masks. (no wonder we cant keep any on hand...)

He wasn’t making a ridiculous prediction. He was making an alternative suggestion. Take off your tinfoil hat and come out from under your bed for a second.

Use your brain, genius.

So the number of preexisting condition, non-Coronavirus deaths just happens to be doubling exponentially each day? The alternative theory is absurd and makes no sense.

Is this guy Jangles? You've got a guy on here from Italy telling you how bad it is and he's still whistling past the grave yard (literally).

As I stated earlier. My company has been lending any and all of it's computing power and many of its human resources to this. Our estimates are this will cost us well over a billion dollars over the next year and we aren't the only company doing this. I hope he can say it's an overreaction at the end of this.

Bergamo is the sister city to Greenville, South Carolina - near where I live. My favorite Italian restaurant in Greenville is Ristorante Bergamo - been there 40 years and has superb food. What is happening in Bergamo is ghastly - and, as a physician, I have an idea how awful it is for the doctors and nurses there now.

It is like a war there...believe me...

I feel that often you post messages without thinking or reflecting too much

Like slogan...

He just repeats the same stupid points. Sometimes he’ll literally repeat the exact thing that was discussed and refuted recently. This is an example. He has written this exact same post multiple times.

Pity as this year i planned to come to Usa
Starting from Seattle a trip...vanished...:(
