I think guaranteeing all money in 2025 for an oft-injured 32 yo is not wise. I mean the Rams don't want him at that price for those reasons. Those things don't change if he's with the Patriots.

On 2nd thought - we don't want Kupp. He's old, injured, and not worth building around.
I'd rather pay AJ Brown - who still has a lot of tread left.

No hes not ideal. The money needs to come way down as he is no longer durable.

With that said the WR room is desperate for leadership. If they can get it from someone else like that- great.

I don't know if the Eagles could move off Brown, or why they would, but I did have an idea at one point of swapping 1sts with them with Brown coming over. #4 for #31/32 + Brown. That evaluates Brown as worth a mid 1st.

The Eagles ain't eating that Dead money... we have to take what we can get.

Madden and fantasy football can be really fun, but I have one question for you. How will the Eagles handle Brown's $61,341,788 in dead cap?

It seems that Kupp isn't worth $20M to them plus a non-guaranteed $20M in 2026.

Why is it worth a draft choice for the patriots to pay him $20M. I suppose if they ate the $5M they owe him if they cut him, they might be willing. For us, we would be buying a draft choice for $5M and be paying Kupp $20M.

I suspect that we will pass for now. Perhaps, we might feel differently after he draft when we might offer them a 2026 draft choice.

Play Demario Douglas in the slot.

I think that's an underrated aspect: the need for a veteran presence and leader in the WR room. Kupp has been there and done that and could show these kids how to be professional wide receivers.

"Cooper Kupp is the equivalent to having (Rams head coach) Sean McVay on the field," Whitworth told 98.5 The Sports Hub's Zolak & Bertrand on Thursday, as seen in the video player above. "Like, Cooper Kupp could walk in a room right now and run an offense. He's that intelligent; he understands the game that much.

"When we would go eat and have breakfast and spend time together, he's one of those guys that's like, 'Dude, I can't wait to coach football.' He's that type of guy. He wants to sit in a room and dissect film and break it down and all those things."

Whitworth noted that Kupp actually acts like a coach on and off the field, to the point where he'd help the Rams design running plays.

"His ability to teach when he's on the field -- he's teaching the receivers, he's still helping the tight ends, the linemen," Whitworth said of Kupp. "He would come up with run schemes that we're gonna run in a game, how he can get more involved in the run game and how we can block a play.

"Like, we used to run basically outside zone with him chipping the (defensive) end like he was a tight end, because he'd be like, 'Teams don't expect that. What if I just came and became the tight end and we run it?' Like, he would come up with those things.

"So, his mindset and that kind of stuff (would) just be invaluable for that quarterback."

$20M is a lot to pay for a fine WR coach.

Yes but he's more than just a fine WR coach, he's a great football player too. A strong and willing blocker and one of the best pass catchers in the league when healthy. That last part is the holdup. But there simply aren't that many options that are going to make this WR room better, and Kupp would only be a short-term commitment anyway. If he has a healthy offseason and performs like he did prior to mid-December, nobody is going to care how much he's making.

This has been my thought as well. Aside from being a productive WR himself, he can assist the other WRs learn the new system and what to do on certain routes. I have no doubts that he could pick up McD offense especially since Caley had implemented some terminology in McVays offense.

He could also help Josh if he needs help melding things, Drake would benefit as well. We also cannot over look that this is Downings first WR room, so certain techniques might be beyond him currently. I know Kupp has said that he does not want to coach because of the time commitment but if he gets a bigger taste than he has had maybe we can wear him down. LOL

No kidding. He is 3'5" and can't play anywhere else. Kupp is not just a slot receiver. He is power slot which is a mix between Z and Slot. Pop and Kupp could be on the field early at the same time. McDaniels, Edelman, Amendola ring a bell?

It would not be $20mil. The Rams would eat part of it. His base is $12.5 this year and $14.8 next year. That is more what you are looking at. Any team that trades will request a restructure and add in some cash and dummy/option years.

Kupp will be 32 years old and has primarily played in the slot. If the Rams are willing to eat a lot of his cash it might look more attractive.

It is all about the roster bonuses.

1) Will LA eat the $7.5M for 2025?

2) Will thy eat the $5M for 2026 (compensation in addition to $14.8M base) and whatever workout and other incentives.
=========
The options for LA have to do with the draft choice. The higher the draft choice, the more they will eat. It is basically selling our draft pick. Sure, we could give them a 3rd and probably get them to eat some money, perhaps $7.5M. Or we could give them a 6th and they don't eat any of the money.

If they want us to take him AND a pick im down for it, this contract is ludicrous

Make a deal, cut the check. He would be our #1 receiver. BURN SOME F.A. CASH PATRIOTS!
