Compensation if BB signs elsewhere??..

Status
Not open for further replies.
Dipshit Kraft signed him to this 2 year extension and now he walks with 25 mill and zero draft compensation. BB played these cheapskates like a fiddle. Maybe consider it a well deserved severance package? Lord knows they would not have willingly given him squat. This was the only way he was going. WIth a fat wad of cash and heading to wherever he wants. Nicely played, Bill.

Was not tagging Brady the right thing to do?

Same logic.
Not giving Brady whatever he wanted to remain in New England was the wrong thing to do, for reasons well beyond wins and losses (like turning your fanbase into opposing political parties).
A franchise tag isn't the same thiing as trying to bring back a bit of compensation for a coach.

Sure it is. It's control over someone who because of their contributions, sacrifice and long-term loyalty, doesn't deserve to be controlled.

You know this how?

Classic. Make **** up, fake outrage, and still know nothing. Based on that attitude, you must have failed pre-school.

It was reported on Channel 5 that Kraft agreed there would be no compensation if BB goes to coach another team.

It was reported as if it was a decent thing to do.
I think it was stupid - if Jerruh or LAC or Atlanta wants BB bad enough, take a high-level pick from them - but whatever.
We don't even know if Kraft COULD do that under NFL rules. Once Belichick was removed from being HC, it's possible he could leave then without being released, under NFL rules.

I doubt he is getting his 2024 salary. If that were the case, it would just be a firing. I'm guessing they must have voided the final year so he is a free agent and his cash will have to come from someone else.

How is asking for a return "control"?
It's not. You don't give away assets - although I agree with the guy who said earlier that BB probably demanded it.

We got 24 years and lot of success from ONE head coach.
I think we are very lucky.
I wish BB lots of future success and am happy Kraft gave him the dignity of going where he wants to!

I don't think he had to demand it. Kraft let Brady hit free agency and write his own ending, he'd earned it.

I think BB earned his own ending as well.

Nobody was shelling out a high pick for a coach who only has a few years left in him max.

It’s not listed as a “firing” because Kraft wanted it to be amicable and be able to bring Belichick back for player red jacket days, Belichick’s own red jacket day, etc… Someone so important to team history he didn’t want the bad optics of a firing. But there’s no way Bill would give up that $25m. He said flat out in his press conference at the beginning of the week he was ready to report for work.

Pretty sure if he takes another coaching job, he will, that will offset the compensation owed by the Pats. I could be wrong though.

We don't know what the details of the deal were.

Where’s the evidence he gets 25 million? You have no clue, you’re just making **** up.

He would give up the $25 million to have no strings attached. Otherwise he couldn’t work for another NFL team without Kraft giving his approval, and that would require BB’s new employer giving up draft assets Bill won’t want to give up.

Mutual parting most likely means no obligations on other side:
Fired: He gets his 2024 salary and can coach immediately (worst case for NE)
Quit: He gets no salary and can't coach b/c the Patriots still hold his rights (worst case for BB)
Mutual parting: They tore up his contract, so he doesn't get any money (helps NE) but can take another job right away (helps him).
Fired has no downside for Belichick. He gets to keep his 2024 salary and go wherever he wants. There is no way he gave that up for nothing.
I’m sure he is still going to be paid by the patriots in 2024.
The only other thing Kraft could have offered was that he would hire Mayo or whoever else BB advised him to.

your conclusion fits by make sense. BB wouldn’t walk away without getting paid, he would have force Kraft to fire him. No way he gave up 25 mill for nothing.

It's never going to be public info but why do you think even this week, he emphasized in his presser that he is "under contract". Do you guys live in the real world? Who the hell is walking away from 24 million if they can get it? And we wonder why 1% of the population holds all the wealth? The education system is failing us apparently. Money talks and BS walks.

Why would he agree to go amicably if he doesn’t get the 25 mill he would get for being fired. There would be no downside to belichick to demand that.

Wrong. If he makes Kraft fire him there are no strings attached.
He would just keep reporting to work until Kraft fired him.

Why was it the right thing to do?
A team that really wanted BB would make the trade. I don't understand the logic there. As I've said earlier, I expect BB to go to a team that's a coach/culture away from a real shot - Dallas or the Chargers, for example. Does a second or even a first round pick matter that much to a team that's confident BB will make a huge difference?
Kraft wanted it to be mutual so he wasn’t viewed as having fired the GOAT.
