Coaching has been horrible down the stretch and stupid today

Agree completely. The coaching from top to bottom was not good this year.
*The defense shut down the Broncos in the 2nd half. Kick the FG's and get the points.
*Broncos edge rushers were blasting off on the Patriots silent count based the predictable head movements of the Center. A TV analyst here in Boston observed that during the game. Patriots sideline made no adjustments with the Center in an attempt to slow the Denver D. I have no doubt the Pats were UNAWARE that was going on. Tip of the cap to the Broncs and their film study. Brady talked about changing the cadence. The Patriots never realized their own Center was telegraphing the hiking of the ball. Brady was also a major part of the problem because he was letting the clock run down so the Denver D knew the play was coming and could fire off the line.
POOR awareness by a QB and staff that should know better.
*Patriots offense was run for no gain or a one yd loss on 1st down and then have Brady look downfield on 2nd and 3rd down. No attempt as screens, sweeps, in cuts to big guys like LaFell, jump balls to tall guys like Chandler. NOPE!! Brady looks down field. Predictable vanilla....and it was eaten up by the Broncs D.
*Started game with a baby poop soft defensive game plan. Yeah yeah....Peyton Manning lacks arm strength so lets defend against the long ball. Let's not pressure him, let's play our DB's 15 yds off the line. Exactly what film study was done of Peyton Manning to create that game plan???

Sweeps and screens were unlikely produce a lot of yards, but at least running a few of those might have forced Ware and Miller to hesitate a little before sprinting straight at Brady. We here so much about the need for our ends to set the edge. Well if there is absolutely no threat of a play to the outside Denver never even had to consider setting the edge.

I personally said I said the decision was bad when they did it. Even if they made it and scored, it would have been the wrong call.

Worst (and most likely case), they miss 2pt and are down by 2. Still need to kick a fg to win. Best case is they tie it. Still need to kick a fg to win.

What they did was the complete opposite of confidence in Brady. They basically said "we need to score on this fluke drive because we don't have a shot in hell of getting this close again". If they had confidence in the greatest QB of all time (or his offensive line), they would have cut the lead to 5 and allowed Brady 6 minutes to drive down again (possibly twice) for more points.

I totally agree with going for it, for one you needed the td and nothing about the game indicated we were getting back to the redzone. Also a fg might change the game plan for the Broncos, maybe they are more aggressive on offense and we don't get the ball back, you just can't know

Blew several games poor coaching decisions. At 6 minutes left you kick that FG that was stupid. You needed those 3 points.

I'll leave the other games out of it, but Belichick's call was perfectly reasonable at that point in the game.

Sure, we all know that they "needed...3 points," but think about it.

They were on, what, the 14 yard line?

The Offense had sucked all day. The only TD they scored was after a fumble recovery deep in Denver territory. It was reasonable to think that they might not get that close again. Going for it was completely reasonable since they were in the Red Zone.

Brady was hit 23 times. Who knew if he'd even be upright much longer? If they score the TD, they only need to get to the 35 at altitude to give them a chance (unless Gostkowski threw up all over himself again).

Yes, they got down and scored again, but the odds were far greater that they would not have done so.

It was the "complete opposite of confidence" in the Offensive Line, which was completely warranted...they had no reason to be confident in their ability to protect him. It was questioning whether Brady would even be upright the next time they got that far (if they did) after being hit 23 times. They had plenty of "confidence in the greatest QB of all time" but close to zero in his protection. It was a reasonable decision.

Exactly!! You have to give defenses something to think about, have to mix it up. Brady also didn't do himself any favors by having the clock run down before getting the ball. Think Ware and Miller are firing off the line the same way with 7 or 8 seconds left on the clock as opposed to 1 or 2 secs? Little things can turn into big plays and in a close game that came down to the need for one more scoring play these little things add up, they matter.

Since this thread has devolved into primarily name calling and only minimal intelligent football conversation, I am closing this thread.

I fully understand the need of some to vent and go off on wild rants in the aftermath of a season ending loss, but we are now 48 hours removed from the end of the last game.
