Clayton: Even with Peppers, Pats not Super Bowl team

Not open for further replies.
Clayton's the guy who kept picking the Vikings to make the Super Bowl during the Culpepper days. Then when Daunte was traded to the Dolphins, he picked them to go to the Bowl. He then suggested that the Raiders signing Culpepper meant they wouldn't take JaMarcus Russell, as they now had Culpepper and thus had no need. He apparently does not watch football, or else he would have realized that Daunte was no longer a starting-caliber quarterback. Perhaps he is actually a crazy person, and that is why he continued to make the same mistakes over and over expecting a different result.

When he picks Daunte as league MVP spearheading the resurgent Lions, my head will explode. My brain will not be able to handle it.

Mort seems to be more accurate of late, and even he has had a couple of mishaps.

But still... what did Clayton say earlier in '09 that was completely crazy ?

I believe it was SuperChicken who said, that after Brady was lost for the season, the Pats would not average 18 ppg.

And out of all the Fespn "experts" (snicker) in the 2006 Predictions link, the Nutty Perfesser was the only one amoung them not to place the Pats in the POs at all. I remember listening to the Huddle radio show in August of '06 when he made that anal-ysis. After he stopped laughing, Sean Salisbury proceeded to rip ****oo Man a new one, again. I used to listen to the show just for that reason.

No way Galloway can run in the 4.2's at age 37 and coming off a broken foot. I dont think hes that much better than Gaffney to be honest. The guy is old...hes turning 38 in november during the season, and hes always been injury-prone. I dont expect much from him. He had his best year in '05 w/Tampa but has declined every year since. I guess hes worth a shot at the rate they got him for, for depth purposes. But hes basically Donte Stallworth without the dreads and the DUI arrest/vehicular manslaughter charges.

I guess you really don't know much about his game...but that is OK

Last year the Steelers beat up the Pats pretty bad,,

Does getting Brady back add enough talent to turn that loss to a win, i.e make the Pats better than the Steelers???

What/who stops the pass rush?

That was one of the worst games for the Pats injury wise last year. Not only were all the guys who were on IR out, but Ty Warren was out too. The Pats were decimated on D last year with injuries. Baring a repeat of that, Ben "************" Roethlisberger will get knocked around pretty good by the revamped Patriots D.

If the Pats aren't a Super Bowl team then who is? The Steelers and Giants are the only teams with a shot? LMAO

Since the team that was a play away from 19-0 we've lost Asante/Vrabel and we added Mayo + others. Where/when did this become such a mediocre team??

I never take seriously anything that "Tweety Bird" says.

please explain yourself....or do you normally just go around making stupid accusations at people? I know enough to know that I am NOT drinking the Kool-Aid on Galloway....so by your comment I am assuming you think Galloway is a LOT different from Stallworth at this point in his career? How do you figure? Do you see Galloway doing MORE this year than Stallworth did? You truly believe Galloway will get more than 700 yds and 3 tds, if even that??

Cant wait to hear this....

Even without Salisbury, Clayton is still a tool that looks like he has never played one sport in his whole life. Renamed the thread.

Behind the scenes I bet John didn't like Sean picking on him so much so he had him removed from the show. Espn should do a fact finding mission for why Sean isn't there anymore. Is it because Clayton didn't like the pencil neck jokes?

Not trying to pick a fight, or intervene in someone else's fight, but Galloway is a far more accomplished player than Stallworth over his career. Statistics are not the best measure of a player--and thus I would argue that Galloway could have 700 yards and 3 TDs and have a very effective season. However, if we use statistics, Galloway has had 7 seasons that are either clearly better or about the same as the best season of Stallworth's career. His career yards per catch is 15.7, which is better than any active wide receiver other than Randy Moss. He was the number 1 receiver on Tampa for 3 straight years until getting hurt and falling out of favor with the (now fired) Jon Gruden...Stallworth has had one season where he could reasonably be considered the #1 receiver, with Philly, who did not make a concerted effort to re-sign him. The only real argument that one could make that would suggest Galloway and Stallworth are of equal value at this point is that Galloway is old...however, due to his exceptional athleticism and the great shape he is in, as well as a track record as a standout player, he deserves the benefit of the doubt that he can contribute to the team this season. I do not think Galloway is going to be in the Pro Bowl, or score ten touchdowns, but if he can beat one on one coverage, which he will see constantly, he will present one more big weapon for the team.

Furthermore, Stallworth has been known throughout his career as a player whose focus comes and goes, and who is not a precise route-runner. Neither of these are considered concerns with Galloway. Plus, Stallworth was relegated to a role as 4th receiver at the end of his one season with New England, in favor of Gaffney. Thus the comparison should arguably be between Gaffney and Galloway, which would be equally lopsided.

I wouldn't say I'm drinking the Kool-Aid, I'm just not going to scoff at those who are pouring themselves a glass.

Well said. There are certainly some uptight people on this board who are quick to assume everyone is drinking kool-aid. I prefer Patriot beer

what are we supposed to do......not drink the Kool Aid and take the recommendations of the holier than thou "experts" like Deus who want to talk down their bony noses because a Clayton has a seeming bias?

and FYI Deus, until the Spygate mess and the daily onslaught of misinformation, disinformation and OUTRIGHT LIES vomited up by ESPN, I never, ever thought they were anything but as fair and agendaless as possible....I take offence at your insinuation that anyone who thinks ESPN was biased towards the Patriots last season is naive and of low intelligence, and that there was no pattern or provable instance of such bias whatsoever. I'm 58 years old, degree'd from B.U. and retired from a successful career and I'll tell you that YOU are the one who is naive if you think there wasn't an ongoing campaign to denigrate the Patriots organization by that news source. How many hundreds of articles and clips does one have to see during a season like 2007 to understand that LIES do affect EVERYTHING around an organization, right up to the days before the Super Bowl and the Tomase lie, blabbered nonstop by EVERY ESPN bobble head on the air....continually...that whole week.....a LIE...Belichick actually admitted that IT DID affect the team and preparation. THAT is W-R-O-N-G. Stop talking down your nose and trying to make anyone here who wants to root for the Patriots in their own manner a bad guy because they don't see things in the strict, narrow manner YOU seem to demand.

Wow.
I think I like you.

Clayton is a moron.

He was on ESPN 890, talking about Cutler. He basically said Josh should apologize. This gives credence to PFT's theory that ESPN is shilling for Cook.

Clayton is nothing more than a gossip columnist.
