Not where I live.Actually, they do that if you need both people's income to qualify for a mortgage. There is nothing that prevents a married person from buying a house in their own name if they can afford it on their own.
Here in PA, we had to sign a bunch of paperwork that included my name on the deed/title to the house, so that I would be aware of the potential for debt and taxes in case she passed. I’m one of two owners of the property and house. I just have a ton of student loans, so I never took part in the process of getting approved by the bank, because it would’ve hurt our debt-to-income ratio, and lowered the chances of approval.
