You would think the Raiders would have reversed that if they wanted to make it more likely for the Pats not to match, or made it longer, or something. It's not really a deal that the Pats had any reason not to match.
Guess they figured a soul for a soul and we’d let him go
I like that we we aren’t in the business of getting rid of young players,

I really liked Elliss last year. Seems like a great culture fit.
But, that's a pretty steep price for a backup LB. We're very stacked now with his type of role.
I'd assume Tavai is gone, but we're down to ALL light LB's - even Bentley dropped a bunch of weight.

Unless they end up cutting Jennings, and keep Truman Jones or something? Or, a rookie in the draft?

Jennings, Tavai and Bentley are on notice. Jennings has been completely overrated by media and posters here. He's solid edges setter, but he's completely worthless rushing the passer. Tavai and Bentley are redundant.

Just looking at the contract and Ellis is tied with Bentley as the 2nd highest paid LB on the team. Bentley's days could be numbered as the Pats could save $4.6M with cutting him. On the other hand, they are kind of stuck with Tavai unfortunately.

they wanted him on a one year deal...

and as @RobertWeathers says hes not getting that second year money

Something interesting occurred to me RE Tavai…

He’s almost identical in size to Harold Landry.

Might he be a DE in Vrabel’s system?

I didn’t care for his comments last year BUT I also have a short memory for players who produce.

All could be forgiven lol.
BB used him as EDGE at times

Hard to judge the deal without the structure...

Example A: Base salary of $1M in 2025 with a signing bonus of $7.6M. 2026 salary of $8.7M with $2M guaranteed. That gives him a $4.8M cap hit this year to match reports but means he's getting $10.6M between this year and next year's guarantees which means it's a terrible 2 year deal for a backup LB.

Example B: Base salary of $4.8M fully guaranteed in 2025 and $8.7M 2026 salary with no guarantees. In that case, it's a kind of expensive 1 year deal for a backup but whatever depth is quietly shaky at LB despite the numbers and lacks his coverage skill set and he'll still be a STs ace anyway.

Him and Bourne back to the raiders for Mayer, was what I was hoping for. But with the ext, they are somewhat locked in on him now.
