Great news. Glad Krafty Bob opened up the checkbook.

I was having fun with your typo.

But clearly it's not "never hear anyone talk about players" signing with their own team, otherwise, this thread doesn't exist.

I missed the typo, but now I get it. All I’m saying is that in general GM’s in any sport don’t get get lauded for keeping their own players. They get credit and blame for picks and signings, as well as the ones that get away, but there’s usually not much talk down the line about the ones they were able to keep.

When was the last time the Pats locked up one of their best players with one year left on their rookie deal? Granted for many years, the Pats had very few players worthy of a second contract. But even in the past, Belichick would make players play out their rookie deal and then fight for money (Mankins, Wilfork, etc.).

This is one thing I am glad to see go from the Belichick era. Even during the Brady years, Belichick was hesitant a lot of times to give contract to top players before their contracts were up. If someone took a discount, he would do it. Someone seeking top dollar would have to fight for it and many times, it saved the Patriots nothing.
I believe it was gronk who was extended in 3rd year ir something like that.

I would do next years second for Aiyuk to replace Thornton.
Same deal for Higgins to replace Ju Ju.
However I don’t know if Higgins is needed as much now.
Wish there was a way to get Waddle from Miami.
We are talking 35 or 36 in draft position and paying them 30 million a year. Too expensive.

A 3rd rounder next year should get it done for higgins if he is available this year . If we are parting our 2nd , I would want their 4th back. On second thoughts, no I don't want us to part with our 2nd rounder . That draft capital is for a rookie who will contribute for next 4 years .

Never looked at us as bad team. We had a great defense, and bad QB play. The draft gives us some reason as fans for optimism.

This is actually the most interesting offseason for me in a long time. I have always found the process of building to be the most interesting aspect of football. They have to get so many right pieces into place to become a Championship caliber team. And now I am starting to hear more about Maye as a person and player and I like what I’m hearing, it sounds like he’s got the right character and attitude to be one a franchise QB.

So his cap hit in 2025 will only be around $15M and around $17M in 2026. If he somehow takes a nosedive then they can cut him after 2025 and only be on the hook for $2M in salary in 2026 and the remaining $13M in signing bonus money, so $15M total in dead money. If they want to move on after two years, they can release him in 2027 for only $9M in dead money. Seems like a deal where if he’s played to his potential he would want to convert that non-guaranteed salary in 2027 into an extension and a new bigger signing bonus. If he hasn’t then the Pats can walk away without a big hit.

This is A+++ work from Wolf, most impressive deal so far. Between the Onwenu contract and this one I am shocked at the deals he has achieved for current players despite being new to the role. Just need to start “hitting” on some external free agents too. Might be easier next year when the young promising QB can be more easily pitched, and there’s a year of what kind of coach Mayo is to reference.

Can Bill draft players or what !!! Great job Barmore in staying, set up his family for sure … this defense is going to be great this year !!

Agreed. In this case though considering who Wolfe is essentially te

Spot on, maye not only has a charm about him. He comes from a good family structure and support . He is a team first guy, heard he already is asking about High schools in the area he wants to visit for a 21 year old he's far beyond his years. On the team same here I'm very, very interested in seeing how it all comes together in camp.

We have guys that have been here the last few seasons especially on defense and have a chip on thier shoulders for all the doubters. I give wolf and Mayo alot of credit right now becuase we can both agree it was ugly the past 2 seasons.

Defensive line was Bill's sweet spot. Hit a lot of homers there. Second round cornerbacks and wide receivers in general, a lot of strikeouts.

After further review, It's a pretty fair deal for both sides. If he has a back to back good years, this will look like Judon's contract of being massively underpaid.

I feel we have a chance again
I know Maye has not played a snap. But love his personality and promise.
I also may be in the minority. But I liked their draft as a whole.
It was good going back and forth with you pre draft

In the end. You were spot on from the start
I had to check out every avenue before I came to reality that we had to take Maye if he was there.
I am not going to lie. If Daniels was there I would have took the trade down
Was not sold on him like I was with Maye.
Picking third and losing out on the second pick I thought was doom for us
In the end. Two years in a row the Commanders were picking right in front of us.
Two years in a row they gave us a gift. IMO

I agree. Your not in the minority at all. I too liked Daniels.. but his size worries me.. he needs to put on at least 20 pounds of muscle . Maye was a no brainer. Big, strong, accurate, can throw on the run. Create when the Play breaks down. This AVP offense will help him becuase it's a zone scheme similar to what Cleveland, and 49ers do. The offense I can say with confidence will be significantly better, the NAVY offense we ran last 2 seasons is gone with the wind. I say it first.. Maye will be the week 1 starting QB!!!

It’s been a fun few days.
Since the team will be learning a new system and players learning to play with each other
OLine still not a strength
Even if Maye is the best QB after training camp. I think it’s best to take his safety into account before putting him out there. He could also get shell shocked right out of the blocks.
Saying that after 6 or so games. If the team is looking presentable from the line and receiver viewpoint. Then let him spread his wings. I just don’t want him to be set up for failure right out of the gates even though he is showing promise.

I'll say setting him up for failure would be asking covington to be his OC.. lol. Mayo said it's competition. So if Drake wins the Job in camp by all means let him play I'll say. Because you learn by playing and being in game situations. On the line. I really think we just have 2 spots unsettled RG and LT. Camp will tell who will be at those spots we have some depth on the line guys just have to play up to Parr.

Actually Belichick gave Wolf the credit for the Barmore trade.
