This is awesome to hear. I'm sure that some people will be like "Buh.. we haven't spent any money".

Ensuring that Barmore is a key piece going forward is great for Mayo and Co.

Given the value of the importance of being strong in the middle of the DL for say 30 plays a game vs having a very good, but aging and somewhat undependable WR is something I would do 100 times out of 100.

We don't need that #1 WR THIS year to make Jacobi look better. We need him NEXT year for Drake. And next year will be a good one for FA WR'S
Agreed. I'd say 2024 we can make the post season. I'm confident because I believe in this defense, and I believe that even under Brissett we are better team offensively. A middling offense day 15th would be good enough to win say 8,9 games. This team isn't a push over. Brissett will throw it way it the play isn't there not to the other team like Mac or Zapp.

This is an important point. The goal of this season should be creating the impression that THIS is a team that is "on the upswing".

Wins, IMHO are less important than being seen as being well coached and, more importantly, COMPETITIVE., even with a somewhat less than ideal roster.

If they just do that, then this will be a place where FA's will be willing to come to.
The timing is right to enable the team to add a missing piece or two to once the foundation is in place.

If, the Patriot's Medical Staff is competent and have no concerns regarding his knee and shoulder (or any physical problems that we're not privy to), then this extension was a must do.

Wow! Thats great news on 2 fronts. You keep an essentially piece and yet another defender who is happy to stick around here. Really getting the sense that the locker room morale aint as bad as one would expect from a season like last year and the boys are ready to turn things around!
How much of that is the addition of Mayo and the removal of Mac?

I would have been fine with even 4 years $110M. Great deal.

That’s the worry, right? Goes back to having nagging injuries, reduced snaps, low motivation. If he can turn in some more seasons like last year though? What a ****ing deal!!
If he agreed on a cheap deal, maybe he is planning to not put forth the effort?

Hope not.

I was pretty confused when Wolf and Co. left so much money on the cap after the FA frenzy
They have been quietly signing next years potential FA’s crop (Patriot players). You get a better deal on them because they never hit the market. Builds a good family atmosphere.
It also frees up a lot of cap space next year to fill holes.
I still think we will stay active and get someone like Gilmore. Hopefully a LT camp casualty.

I thought Barnmore was the #1 target. Glad they got it done

Higgins and Aiyuk could still be trying to shoot their way out of their respective towns as well.

Said it before, the Pats were the only team that could put any more money in his pocket this year. For D lineman in the last year of a rookie deal that signing bonus and the guarantees are a hella incentive to get something done before setting foot on a field again. Generational wealth without risk.

Im in as long as it is not a next years first rounder.
I still think we will be picking pretty high next year

When was the last time the Pats locked up one of their best players with one year left on their rookie deal? Granted for many years, the Pats had very few players worthy of a second contract. But even in the past, Belichick would make players play out their rookie deal and then fight for money (Mankins, Wilfork, etc.).

This is one thing I am glad to see go from the Belichick era. Even during the Brady years, Belichick was hesitant a lot of times to give contract to top players before their contracts were up. If someone took a discount, he would do it. Someone seeking top dollar would have to fight for it and many times, it saved the Patriots nothing.

Gotta wonder how many of these extensions would have gotten done if BB was here.
None.

He would have traded 3 for 11 and 23

Drafted McCarthy at 11
Traded 23 to the Lions for 29 & 73
Drafted Cooper Dejean at 29
Drafted Jer'Zhan Newton at 34
Drafted Dominick Puni at 68

Dugger, Barmore and Ownenu replaced.
