NFL eliminates all 'chop' style blocks for 2016 season

Good news for the Pats I think - going to hurt all the zone blocking teams and also reduce chance of injuries (which is always going to be good for the best teams).

Just because they're banning the chop block doesn't mean the refs will actually call them on it. Denver's allowed to hold at will, I assume they will still be allowed to chop block as well.

As an interesting aside, there is actually a contractual limit on the number of commercial breaks that can be taken during each half of an NFL game (this is why they typically don't go to commercial break at all during the last few minutes of a half).

We don't chop block ... but we are a zone blocking team ... so how would it hurt us?

More a hybrid I think - we do run some outside zone, but mixed in with power runs.

Gibbs is the father of zone blocking, with cut blocks pretty central to the concept:

Note that only chop blocks were banned, not cut blocks. (Chop block = blocking below the waist while player being blocked is engaged with another blocker. Cut block = blocking low in a 1-on-1 situation.) So DEN is still in business.

You've got the right idea. It's when the defender runs right past the offensive lineman, so he yells "LOOK OUT!!!!" to the QB.
