Sorry to be late getting to your question:What do you think is a reasonably safe bet on a long kick from Gost?
I think he's fantastic and I think he could sink 2/3 50 yarders.
It would be interesting how much we could shrink the field with him.
I don't believe there is any such thing as "a reasonably safe" long kick. I expect a PK to make them consistently inside the 40. Anything over 50 is gravy. 40-50, breaking even is about what I'd expect. That said, Gostkowski kicks them in warm up out to 53, I give him a fighting chance at that range, but if it has to be a game winner at the end, I'd prefer it to be inside the 50 because he usually starts to lose a little off his kickoffs by the fourth quarter. Where Gost can really make a difference is on kickoffs, the more touchbacks he racks up the better the chance the D can turn it into a field position win.
