It's easy, and only takes a few moments."An inability to put pressure on the quarterback had a dramatic impact on your ability to stop the pass, too: the Patriots finished 23rd in the all-important Defensive Passer Rating category. Your average opponents produced an 89.8 passer rating this year. That’s bad, Bill. Any quarterback with that type of passer rating for his career is in the Hall of Fame or headed for the Hall of Fame."
Still think our passrush and secondary are ok?
One of the most catastrophic professional sports injuries ever (non career ending) and a 3 point loss in the Super Bowl, somehow gives this idiot the balls to write that - it's a sad day in New England Sports.
Now, they happened, and they all count, but man. Hardly a reason to break up the Pats.
When it comes to football: In BB I trust.
Open letter, puh lease.
BB is the best thing that has happened to the Patriots ever (with a tip of the cap to Mr. Kraft buying the team). BB has all the help that he needs running the team... who the heck is this guy?
I don't think the point is that the Pats should be broken up. The point is that the Pats defense needs improvement. If you look at the numbers, that's quite true. Our defense is NOT 'perfectly fine' and there is room to make it better. It does not stack up to any of the Superbowl winning defenses.
The article suggested trading Moss and trading Welker to get better on D. I know that's not technically breaking them up, but wow...that would be a major re-shuffling, don't you think?
I absolutely hate open letters. They are usually self-aggrandizing pools of drivel. "Look at me, I'm talking to Bill Belichick".
That being said...
Sure, Belichick needs to invest in the defense and make it the stamp of next years team, but trade Moss and Welker? Ok. Like the 49ers would have been wise to trade Jerry Rice to boost their defense.
Am I crazy or does the defense seem to have the pretty fundamental problem of being bad tacklers? I seem to get frustrated many times a game by one or more of our defenders getting hands on the ball carrier but not actually bringing him down. It was the same last year (the failure to down Marion Barber and Eli Manning being the 2 most glaring examples).
Couldn't agree more. I too hate "open letters too...". And everyone knows the Pats need to tackle better and rush the passer better. But don't "trade Moss and Welker"...talk about a look at me statement by the writer.
An open letter to Bill Belichick

This little re-confirmation of conventional football wisdom tells me that it’s time for you and the rest of New England management to remove your head from your rectum and revert to the old, boring ways of winning Super Bowls.
Here’s the problem, Bill: Somewhere along the way you and Patriots management sold your souls to the devil — you were apparently tired of the “boring” tag that plagued the organization during its Super Bowl years.
While driving into work it occured to me what i really should have said is CONTINUE to work on the defense. I think that a few years ago after the AFCCG against Indy he may have thought that he could mask an aging defense by fielding a great offense, but has since had second thoughts about it. If we had two very good CB it would make the rest of the D so much better especially the pass rush.We had a pure offensive draft in '06 in '07 we drafted Meriweather signed Stallworth traded for Welker and traded for Moss. Last year was a defensive draft with MAYO Wheatly, Crable etc. But i don't think its enough We may lose Seymour or Wilfork we need another LB, safety, and CB.
Maybe i'm wrong but it seems our defense is the thing that has let us down by wearing down at the end of the year or through injuries. The older you get usually the more injury prone you get. Its just natural, look at Rodney, Teddy B, Seau etc.
I don't think the point is that the Pats should be broken up. The point is that the Pats defense needs improvement. If you look at the numbers, that's quite true. Our defense is NOT 'perfectly fine' and there is room to make it better. It does not stack up to any of the Superbowl winning defenses.
