I thought chenel signed with the commanders yesterday

Signings aren't official until 4pm EST unless the player was a Street Free Agent or had been cut by their previous team. Players / teams can change their mind before the 4pm EST official Start time of NFL Free Agency.

I loved his effort a lot of his sacks came on second effort on QB's driven out of the pocket, but he was a one trick pony who couldn't set the edge.

Not signing him will make sense if we sign Chenal. I really like what I've read about him

But Chenal is gone, to the Commanders so he’s going to be playing with Chaisson. I’d prefer to see them playing together here.

My take based on absolutely nothing substantial is that the Pats expect Landry to make a complete recovery.

I think they're definitely taking EDGE high in the draft (1 or 2) and that they might think that's enough.

Then they think... poorly.
