Celtics 2024-2025 Discussion

JB’s improved play last year: 17.8 attempts/game (same in playoffs), 51%. Slowed it down and focused on passing, patience, high percentage looks.

This year: 22.2 attempts/game, 45%.

Yes, small sample size, but we all know what he needs to do to be at his best, which is be more selective.

JB and JT both took responsibility for playing crappy. Neither made any excuses, just admitted they sucked and need to tighten it up.
Not every NBA superstar does that.
I don't think we'll be seeing a lot of those performances by either any more.

You all know that, to me, this isn’t a kneejerk / recency take. DW is better than Dame at everything except kewl juke moves and finding ways to take (low pct) shots at high volumes.

Jrue is better too obviously. Look at the Bucks with Dame vs Jrue. With Dame, they have an atrocious perimeter defense, chemistry problems, a dribble centric offense, and an overall undeniably worse team.

Jay Bilas gets it. He repeatedly called DW one of the best players in the NBA. Not one of the best guards one of the best players.
There are very very few players I would trade DW straight up for, one on one.
Very few. Less than 10.

Queta looks like a perfect player for this team, especially long term with KP’s injuries, but every time it looks like he’s found his beat, he regresses during a stretch of plays. I wonder if these are things he can improve or if this is just his full player profile. He was really good in G League with Sacramento but they waived him, which is surprising given his ridiculous physical gifts. As a raw athlete only, I like him better than any of their bigs: Time Lord, KP, Kornet. Dude is just so athletic but also strong, coordinated and balanced...not a Gumby type.

Grant Williams trying really hard to show he’s relevant. Hope he gets suspended. Douche.

What a dirty play by Grant Williams. Wow Jaylen went up to him and was like “wtf is wrong with you?”

Hornets are a pretty unique matchup…basically five guards, a few who are taller but can handle like PGs. Tomorrow will probably be competitive too.

LaMelo is a damn good player but if he doesn’t bulk up, he’s going to keep getting manhandled on D.

White was hobbling on his knee. Won’t be surprised if he doesn’t play tomorrow.

Game was blacked out with Gamepass in NC. And it wasn't on local TV, because the Hornets have sucked for a few years.
I agree about Queta. Both Kornet and Tillman were better than him in preseason but Queta has been the best of the 3 so far in regular season.
He brings something different to the table but just needs consistency.
Really hoping he can develop this year.

I always liked Marcus Smart, even tho he made me tear my hair out sometimes, but Grant Williams?
No, never liked the dude even when he wore green

Marcus is not a dirty player that’s the difference.

People assume that if you have great teammates, it makes you better. That isn’t always the case. We always see these “superstars” changing teams, and given a lesser role as offensive shot creator, many times they make the team minimally better, equal, or worse. Recently: Bradley Beal, Damian Lillard, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Terry Rozier, look at how many deficiencies they have have when they can’t just score 30 ppg as the primary scorer. They can’t contribute in ways Holiday or White can contribute. They wouldn’t make the Celtics better.

Even Kemba Walker is an example of this. Good player, and he was injured, but even at his best and healthy, playing with Tatum and Brown, he didn’t take them to the next level, even though he was a “top 25” player/scorer when healthy. Kyrie also got lots of hype but advanced stats pegged his neutral / negative impact with all the dribbling, ball hogging, and defensive failure.

Watch out for the Cavs. +17 point differential thru 6 games suggests this isn’t flukey.

Scalabrine had me laughing when he went off on the Charlotte franchise using bee symbolism for their team. He ended with something like "Bees are good. Hornets are just annoying".

JB is out tonight…wonder if this has been bothering him. Surprised more guys aren’t out with this stupid back-to-back format.

Damn I wanted to see him lock up Williams tonight. This sucks. I doubt its been bothering him, more just get him some rest on a back to back.
