Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

Really weird that Tatum was first team all nba given Brunson finished ahead of him by a comfortable margin in mvp voting.

Brown didn’t make all nba, despite having a better season than last year.

White not surprisingly wasn’t mentioned.
Those who know know White's real value.
Usually guys like us who actually played the game.
NBA players know.
They'll tell you White is the 2nd best player on the C's. I agree.
That's taking nothing nothing away from Brown,Jrue or KP.
All great players.
Brown had a great season. A legit allstar.
I'm higher on him than you.
But White still is vastly underrated.
It's funny but true we see it all the major pro sports- a guy will outplay established superstars but it takes another year or two before everyone recognizes it.
Happens in the nba nfl and mlb all the time.

Moment felt a little too big for the Wolves right there. Dallas was more composed and in control being led by two superstar vets. Big ups to Luka and Kyrie.

Trying not to get ahead of myself with Dallas winning game one...

I came out of that game feeling like this one may go seven. Luka & Kyrie have that superstar confidence and composure. The Wolves didn't have it and they need to get Ant off of Kyrie or they'll lose the series. Dude was gassed chasing Kyrie and it impacted his offensive capabilities.

My other main takeaway is that the Celtics are simply better than all three of these teams, especially with Porzingis. The media will make you feel like the Celtics are the only team who plays sloppy or has ugly wins. I wasn’t particularly impressed by either team last night.

Also it’s not a great matchup for Wolves. Things looking good for Celtics, like their path is being paved. Hope Mavs can keep it up and won’t be surprised if they advance. Mavs matchup terribly with Celtics.

Yeah I feel pretty good after watching that one. Playing up to our capabilities with Porzingis back…Celtics should dispatch all of these teams within six games IMO.

I am just not sure Porzi will really be back. Giannis did not make it back in time and Porzi is much more fragile.

Supposedly he could be back by Game 4 according to Woj. Given that I’d be a little surprised if he wasn’t back, at least by the start of the Finals.

Yea they're all different, depending on the grade, and they don't seem to ever really release that information so there's no way of knowing on that basis

But Woj seems to be one of the few guys who is accurate with stuff so fingers crossed that's the case here

Check out Giannis's games played since 2018. Porzi is fragile but G isn't exactly durable either.

Just thinking, I get the Celtics are under the microscope because they haven't won it all yet, but definitely so far so good this year

I mean, the Celtics let a below .500 Houston team win two back in the day after all. Just get the banner

I'm not real optimistic about getting KP back with close to 90% effectiveness.
I hope so but I'll believe it when I see it.
Agree. I read he had a Grade 2 strain. If the below is true he ain't coming back 100% no way.

A soleus strain, a soft tissue injury to the calf muscle, usually takes about six weeks to heal, depending on the severity of the strain. Calf strains are graded as mild (grade 1), moderate (grade 2), or severe (grade 3):
  • Grade 1: 4–6 weeks
  • Grade 2: 8–12 weeks
  • Grade 3: 4+ months

Where did you see that? I was googling around and it didn't seem like anyone had anything definitive like that

Even if it is a Grade 1 strain, the conservative view is to heal in 6 weeks. The injury was on April 29th, so 6 weeks is June 10th which is about half way through the NBA Finals. If it was a Grade 2 strain, he is not coming back for the Finals. Either way, I doubt he will be nearly 100% and I am not sure coming back against a running team like the Pacers is a good idea. Hopefully he can help in the Finals. We will see. I doubt it. The Woj leaks seem suspicious, not comforting, to me. I always wonder why people have to leak timetables when the team confirms nothing. It is most likely Porzi's agent who is trying to put out good news.

Not good. May have to win a title w/o him.
That would be something to see.

Good god you freaking voices of doom

I say he's back by game 5!!! Sunshine lollipops baby!!

That may have been the most *****-slap worthy team of all time, so many *****es and just the two hands. Lambeer, Mahorn, Rodman, Dantley, Dawkins, Rodman and Thomas all on one team. Of course you slap Lambeer first but 2nd? That's a tough call. I know a lot of folks would say Rodman now but at the time I'd have had a real difficult choice between Thomas and Mahorn. I guess I'd go with Thomas just so we could watch him cry while slapping around the rest but tough call. Lord that was a hatable bunch
When Rodman was with Detroit he hadn't yet become the absurd person he became in Chicago. He was a ferocious defender and rebounder. As frustrating as he was for opponents, he was way low on my list of people to hate on that team. I would have taken him, Salley, and Vinnie Johnson on my team in a second.

There was more riding on the Bird steal than last night's great sequence.

In '87, if we went down 2-3 going to DET for G6 we would have certainly lost.

With that said, I'll always maintain if we had lost G5, Parish plays G6 in DET (he was suspended for *****-slapping Laimbeer).
You're definitely right about the importance of Bird's (and DJ's) play.

For me it was the way Brown TWICE flat out stole victory in a 5 second span that puts it up there. It will remain to be seen how important winning Game 1 was for the Celtics.
