Celtics 2023 - 2024 Discussion

Horrendous performance. I realize that a back to back when you just had a draining OT game is difficult but going down 40 points is inexcusable. Hopefully that one sticks in their head for a while and they use it as motivation.

The NBA never did back-to-back home/road games in the playoffs because they knew the games would suffer but now they do it in the regular season like it's no big deal. Stupid.
While making it a big deal nationally televised games.

That and Ime in town.
Yeah it's a shame about him he's a helluva coach.
Rockets played hard just don't have the talent to keep up with us.
Whole C's team was great collectively and individually.
Brown was outstanding again but so were Tatum,White, Porzingis Pritchard.
Big Al and Holiday very good.
Just gotta be healthy playoff time

Hopefully the easy 2nd half schedule will allow players to be rested.

The only way to guarantee reducing the chance of me crashing on my Harley is to ride the Harley less. Same thing, hopefully the Celtics will rest the starters more as the schedule gets easier and the playoffs approach.

Great 20-4 run in 3rd after Raptors built a lead. Great team win.
All the starters were good to outstanding.
But I gotta give Jrue the game ball. Just superb all-around game by him

Heat and Pacers (now) are two teams who we are obviously better than but still worry me in a playoff series. East is looking more difficult than last season, for sure.

With Holiday especially we are tougher for a team like the Heat (Butler). The zone collapsing to man is also a nice defensive twist that should help by the playoffs. I think we will be OK.

I just don’t see the “transformative” player he’s projected to be. I get that he’s an obvious first pick because he’s so polished at such a young age, and has a very high floor, but I just don’t see a player with his body type dominating the league. We’ve already seen this many times. Sampson, Yao Ming. Porzingis is one of the better ultra talls, being the first to bring the solid outside game with him.

Most of these guys are better as second options, thriving in pick and rolls and as complementary players. They’re just too tall and lanky to really plant themselves as the primary guy.

I like the 7’0” - 7’1” type tall guy better. A guy like Holmgren is a good example and is already dominating. I think that type of player can be more of Kevin Durant / Dirk Nowitzki whereas Wemby just reminds me more of the Manute Bol type (not that he’s Bol, but I mean his freakishness.)
Wemby at 7'3.5" 230lbs before training camp is way more than Giannis' BMI at 6'9" 190lbs when he entered the league. He'd have to gain another 40lbs to match Giannis' current 6'11" 243lbs. Side note: Wemby'd have to lose over 40lbs to get to MBol's BMI, which tells you how freakishly skinny MBol was.

I have to wonder if Wemby's leading the league in blocked shots already is a result of players wanting to test themselves against the tall guy (like everyone's driving on Tacko early on). Based on how he looked last night, there's no question he's got skills. Transformative? Imho it'll depend on whether or not he can consistently shoot the 3. That and his supporting cast needs to shoot better than 18% from 3.

Glad to see the NBA decided to scrap the stupid way they did the AllStar game last 5 years.
The NBA has pretty much always had the best All Star games of any of the big 4 team sports( before 2018).MLB would outdo them once in a while, prime example being the incredible 1999 game at Fenway,McGwire hitting moonshot after moonshot, the awesome tribute for Teddy Ballgame and Pedro blowing away Bonds,Sosa etc. I can still see the look on Pedro's face when he was pitching in a big game.
Pure assassin.
And the consensus greatest national anthem ever done at a sporting event is Marvin Gaye's rendition at the 1983 NBA ASG. For what it's worth, I put Jimi Hendrix' incredible guitar solo of the anthem opening Woodstock as #2 all time after Gaye, though not technically a sporting event. Though there was plenty of sporting going on. nudge nudge wink wink.
Sorry,Whitney comes in 3rd

Would be a travesty if DWhite isn't on the All Star team

Disappointing. Not sure it is a travesty.
There are other deserving guys too, I’d agree. And it feels rather unprecedented for an NBA team to get 4 All-Stars. White would be #4 but his shooting slump was ill timed, not sure it would’ve made a difference though.

Assuming he doesn’t get the nod, may he take it personally out on the court. I’m all for that.
