CBS Sports draft game.

Re: The Heatster's Shot

I really like your first two picks, less thrilled by the rest. Still, it's always a good thing to have different names thrown in. Johnson is interesting. He looked like 6'2" of muscle at the combine, incredible build, and yet he tested poorly and his film underwhelms too. Strange prospect.

Thanks for the feedback. It seems we've discussed the same 30 or so names ad nauseum, so I did try to plot an alternate course.

Re: The Heatster's Shot

This exercise usually gets lots of comments. What in the hell is going on over here! (in my best vince lombardi voice)

Patriots picks:
29, Kelvin Benjamin WR
62, Jaylen Watkins CB
93, Demarcus Lawrence DE/OLB
130, Cameron Fleming T
140, Christian Jones LB
198, Seantrel Henderson T
206, Deandre Coleman DT
244 Larry Webster DE

UDFA
Tom Savage QB
Gabe Ikard C
Gator Hoskins FB/TE
Ben Gardner DE
Lorenzo Taliaferro RB
Cairo Santos K
Dexter McDougle CB
Chris Coyle FB
Jonathan Dowling S
Brandon Linder G
Glenn Carson ILB

Using the trade Mayo suggested with Jacksonville:

39 Jace Amaro
62 Dominique Easley
93 Joel Bitonio
105 Travis Swanson
130 Christian Jones
140 Adrian Hubbard
198 Khairi Fortt
206 Aaron Lynch
244 Jonathan Dowling

I know a lot of people don't like Amaro, but I think at 39 would be great value and an even better fit in the offense. Could be moved around from inline, to slot, to out wide.

Easley has been talked about enough, but adding him and his pass rush ability to both DE and DT would really improve the rotation.

Bitonio and Swanson would really improve the interior OL. If you want to beat Seattle you have to protect Brady.

A lot of chess pieces on defense:

Hubbard could be used both at DE/OLB. Can set the edge and generate a pass rush. Could he be developed to be the 3rd DE full time?

Fortt is an athletic coverage linebacker that on occasion lined up in a 3 point stance and rushed the QB.

Lynch and Jones have been talked about a ton.

I felt Dowling was the best safety available with a high ceiling.
