My understanding is they have a "beater" machine that literally beats the bushes shaking the cranberries loose so they float on the water and then can be scooped up.

OK, we did do the nose, and the hat, but she is a witch.....

Cranberry "bogs" are giant fields surrounded by a moat and about 3ft levees, each bog has a reservior which they drain into the bogs at picking time to flood the bog and bring the cranberries to the surface. These reserviors make greart skating ponds in the winter, however riding your motorcycle on the tops of the levees will cause the mean old cranberry farmer to shoot you with his rocksalt loaded shotgun (which I can atest, REALLY, REALLY HURTS!!!!)
