Can the Line hold up?

Our offensive line might legitimately be the worst unit in the NFL.

They can't run block, they can't pass block, they collapse almost instantly at multiple spots, they get pre snap penalties all the time and frequently get meaningless post snap penalties.

They almost routinely measure at the bottom of the NFL on a collective and individual level.

Yes, they are terrible.

perhaps, we need to focus on 2024. We have a reasonable future inside with usual annual additions.
We have centers Andrews and Andrews. We have guards Strange, Mafi and Sow.

We have ZERO tackles. It is really that simple.

Ah yes 2014 was a good year let's focus on that.

I saw a few plays where Sow looked scared just stuck his arms out.
I realize he is a rookie but give a greater effort would be nice.

The unspoken possibility is that our 2023 IOL draftees nay be backups at best. Of course, we are counting on all them to be starters.

I think Vederian Lowe is the worst player I've ever seen play for the Patriots in a regular season game. Not his fault--he's not an NFL player. It's BB's fault for not having any options.

It is just malpractice to keep putting him out there. He isn't an NFL caliber player let alone a starter going up against one of the best pass rushers in the league.

Lowe is statistically the worst OL in the entire league.

As soon as or if ever Onemenu is healthy, he need to be moved to RT.

He’s so bad it’s fascinating to watch. Like multi car wrecks on a highway.

So to answer the thread’s title, “Can the Line Hold Up?”, the answer seems to be an unequivocal No.

And as Ian reminds us it didn’t get better when Cunningham was in there.

Lowe is pornographically bad. Meaning my eyes balls pop out of my head like the first time I saw Playboy as a youngster.

Mafi is bad too. But maybe he will season and mature.

And we gave away our speedy back, Pierre Strong, for swinging door Lowe? Wow. The hits keep coming.

We gave up a 6th rounder for Lowe. We gave up Strong for Wheatley who has not seen the field (injured). Strong is averaging about 15 yards a game.

That’s informative. Also, the timing was bad coming after TC.

So it wasn’t like a mail order thing, right?

Like my neighbor has this wife he got from overseas. It’s called a mail order bride.

I thought that Wheatley was a lot like that. BB saw his body and went hubba-hubba.

I think I remember that Wheatley is a TE turning into a tackle so a bit of a project. Supposedly very athletic.

Vederian Lowe is rated 72 of 74 OTs in the league. With two tackles per team (64), Lowe is ranked as a backup player by a significant amount. Atonio Mafi is ranked 78 and Sidy Sow is 76 out of 79 Offensive Guard, and both are rated as backups.

The first couple pages of this thread perfectly illistrates the optimism of the offseason.

We need to invest some real capital into it for next year.

no doubt, but the OL free agency group appears slim. the hope would have to be to see if they can get a stud in the draft, and find some vet help that can be coached up into a solid player for the scheme the Pats decide to use in 2024.
honestly, I do not feel Onwenu is back.
would Strange, Sow and Mafi be enough on the interior, with J Andrews and Russey behind them? Pats would then have to hit on the draft for a franchise type stud at T.
for me, it is troubling that Mafi and Sow do not appear to be getting better. still half a season for it to play out.

Coming into the summer I kept waiting for Bill to make a move to trade for a starting caliber RT and all we got was Lowe and Wheatley who aren't NFL players. I, along with many others, thought Reiff was going to go the Jared Veldheer route and retire in camp when he realized he couldn't play anymore but we didn't get that lucky.

I want to know who are the two OT worse than Lowe. Are they actually players or are they counting tackling dummies too?

Lowe makes me wish we had Marshall Newhouse back.
