Can Boston win the championship grand slam?

Durant going down is a great example of how you just never know in sports. Now the Celtics are a fiery trainwreck of course, but the idea that they or any team couldn’t win because the Warriors are unstoppable suddenly doesn’t seem like such a certainty.

It was only a matter of time. Warriors got extremely lucky with injuries so far.

That said they probably beat Denver without him and he could/should be back for the Finals.

IF the get past Houston which seems very uncertain despite needing only 1 more win now.

He's just a mercenary signing that didn't pan out. I wouldn't really consider him a "hometown player." Or great for that matter.
I meant hometown in that he plays for my home team.

He’s indisputably a great player unless you don’t consider a top-10 player in the league great.

The Pats also beat two 12 win teams en route to the SB....and then beat a 13 win team too....

...in the same year that they lost the most games to the worst teams they played during the regular season.

It will never happen of course, but I think the sport would improve exponentially if they got rid of the three.

I remember Red's reaction when they came up with the 3 pointer. He didn't like it and thought that teams should get 3 points for getting it to the basket.

Yet Red had the Celtics shooting three pointers more than most teams. Chris Ford hit the first three pointer in NBA history and he and Larry finished second and third, respectively, in three point field goal percentage in the first season it was implemented.

obviously we did not win them, but the mid 80s our teams went nuts also.

Celtics 81,84,85,86,87 Finals appearances three wins
Bruins 88,90 Finals appearance
Pats 86 SB appearance
Sox 86 World Series appearance.

Yeah only the Celtics won, but I remember Boston being the center of the Sports world back then too.

70s Bruins 5 Finals appearances 2 wins
Celtics 74,76 two wins
Sox 75 appearance
Pats 76 robbed

No surprise that Red would use it even if he didn't like it. I'm just glad that the NBA, back then, didn't go crazy with the 3 pointer. I got to see a lot of great passing and fast break basketball before it ended.

Yes, Red was like Bill. The league office can and could manipulate the rules all they want, but in the end, those two would use the changes to their advantage.

think about this. the only decade since 1900 a boston team didnt win a title was the 90s. mind boggling.

They'll just do what they did before and what most teams do now - jack up 3 after 3, turning basketball into the second most boring sport in the United States.

1960's:
- 9 Celtics Finals, 9 wins (lost in '67)
- 1 Red Sox WS appearance ('67), lost in 7
- 1 Patriots AFL champ appearance ('63), lost 51-10
- 1 Bruins cup finals, 1 win ('69)

Irving a top-10-calibre player? No Feckin Way...not even close.

It's been 11 years now; how many more chance does this fool deserve?

1/13 Kelly Olynyk C Canada Dallas Mavericks (traded to Boston)[C] Gonzaga (Jr.)

1/14 Shabazz Muhammad SG/SF United States Utah Jazz (traded to Minnesota) UCLA (Fr.)

1/15 Giannis Antetokounmpo* SF/PF Greece Milwaukee Bucks Filathlitikos (Greece)

And the Celtics get killed on the boards in virtually every game, and lose to good teams as a result. That's Stevens' MO before and after Kyrie. It's maddening.

That's on Ainge as much as anyone, for allowing Stevens to run his system without adapting to the need for someone to work the glass. Ainge has to know that Steven's system is limited, yet he gives it seemingly complete deference.
