Cameron Fleming Signs With The Cowboys

Seems a bit much for him.

Do we know what Waddle got yet? Hopefully less.

Going into free agency, Fleming was listed as among the top free agents available, certainly among the top OT's, so I'm not surprised.

I expected more, but that would have been last week. Now, this seems reasonable.

Of course, we don't know the details, and the incentives. If they are game bonuses, then he did fine.

I'm surprised that we couldn't match this.

We could have matched. We could have had Fleming on the team.

The team decided to keep ONE of Fleming and Waddle, and they wished to have their choice.

Cannon, Waddle, Tobin or Garcia or Jelks (swing backup)
Croston - emergency backup
========
Most of us would agree that LT is still a major need. We might even move up in the 1st. Also, we could sign another free agent to compete with Tobin.

If the 'Boys are seriously considering trying Fleming as the starter at RT so that they can move Collins back to Guard, the Pats couldn't possibly have matched that.

As things stand today, the Patriots have an opening at left tackle. Fleming
would have been one of the players to compete for this position.

Apparently the team disagrees. The team would rather have Waddle than Fleming as a starter.

Whether Scar moves Cannon to LT its another matter entirely. Perhaps an additional 2 years of training has made Cannon a better option than he was in the past.

That being said, personally, I would rather have added Fleming, expecting to cut Tobin. But I trust Scar. If he'd rather have Tobin, then fine.

When Cannon went down Waddle got the start over Fleming until he got hurt. Waddle got signed first, the Pat's liked Waddle over Fleming and Waddle is the better overall athlete.

He's our starter this season unless he gets hurt, injury risk is his only question mark as he hasn't exactly been an iron man. When healthy he's a good tackle.

Sure would like to see BB spend some draft capital to move up and grab a top OT ...or even LB

The "max" of $3.5 million implies that there are playing time incentives, and it's going to be easier for him to hit those incentives competing against Chaz Green instead of Garcia, Waddle, and whoever gets drafted.

Any future compensatory picks change after this contract?

Seems a bit much for him.
There was a time least one prediction on his forum that flemming would get 6-10 mill per year on a long term contract

Why would you have wanted them to do so?
There's safety in numbers. I hope to see about four more free agent or draft picks
or undrafted players competing for offensive tackle spots.
