Ian's Daily Blog - Bad news in Foxboro on Sunday after Patriots center Dan Koppen was injured during the first half against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.* Koppen was seen leaving the field and being taken to the locker room, and didn’t return.* His return was officially reported by the team as “Questionable”.Meanwhile wide receiver Brandon Tate appeared to [...]

I did see when Tate reached for his leg after being tackled.

that hurts... Tate and Koppen

hopefully they are not serious

Tate was seen on an exercise bike in the 2nd half.

To me, thats the best bit of the article

Damn, Koppen is key to the offense and I really was liking what the Tate kid was bringing to the table.... Hope both are OK.

I have to review those plays. Was it the damn turf at Gillette? That miserable field seems to claim a key starter every game: Mayo, Morris Fred Talyor (don't remember the details of this injury). Now Koppen? Bring back the grass.

Field is not the problem. I have installed one before on a large project. In addition to several advantages (durability, maintenance, drainage, etc) it is much much safer than any other type of field including grass. They actually engineer the gravel fill below the carpet surface and then fill in with rubber pebbles that are compacted per engineered specifications. The field is probed several times a year and more fill is added or compacted - whatever the engineering tests reveal. It is the safest surface by far.

Other installers include Sprint-turf and many unbranded products as well.

Ah but you work for the turf industry. Why do players hate it then? Watson said it was as hard as a rock. Every game the Patriots lose a starter because of that damn turf. Morri,s, Taylor, Mayo, and no Koppen. Sure players still get injured on grass, but the injuries are not as bad. When you plant and hit on that leg, the foot does not move on turf but it is going to move a half inch on grass at least. A half inch is a big deal when you are talking about tendons.

If the Pats actually had grass on that field, it'd be one thing. But by the time they replaced it, it looked like complete s***.

Also, remember that, injury issues or no, Brady lobbied for the Field Turf.

Are you saying that better traction is more dangerous? I've never heard a player criticize the new type of turf, only the old kind. Could you provide a link?

Fred - You do realize that the new Field Turf is NOT the your father's ASTROTURF that was a half inch of plastic on top of concrete.

Please provide your proof that the injuries are WORSE on the FieldTurf than on grass.

Also, please let us know which starter was lost during the Atlanta game. I am curious to know.

Could you also provide us the link to where Watson claimed that the new turf was like concrete?

Brady's record on this kind of surface....

That is all....

look it up

Any updates on Koppen & Tate?

Some good news captain. Just heard on the radio Koppen was in the locker room today sans limp. Haven't heard anything on Tate.

After being injured, Tate returned to bench area, riding the bike, standing with players on the sideline. Did not appear to be much concern. Koppen went to the locker room and did not return. On the face of it, it does not look like Tate will miss much, while Koppen appears less clear, though after all his knee is still attached for pete's sake. Come playoffs, I expect Koppen and Light to be on the line, while Taylor and Morris will be in the backfield, and Edelman and Tate at WR.
