Do players let the team know when they have a chance to go to another team, so the original team can try to keep them?
 
Why not try Dip? Westover kind of took his spot. They do different things, but some similar things too. And Westover certainly doesn't appear 53 worthy.

“Yeah, that’s CJ.”
 
There are a lot of things to like about Dippre’s athleticism. Big guy at 6’5” 255, runs well for his size (4.69 forty), his strength, allegedly bench pressed 500 pounds, and did 32 reps of 250 lbs at the combine. Maybe he can make something out of his chances on the 53 as a blocker, or maybe he doesn’t see the field at all like most practice squad call ups. He seems to get some YAC when he does catch the ball. I’m not expecting much, but maybe he’s been doing some good things in practice.
As someone who powerlifted for many years I would have to see the 500 bench to believe it. Guys with his height who are pushing that weight are generally 300lbs+. But I agree I think he seems pretty solid and should be able to give us some production on the field.
 
I was thinking Dippre was going to be a surprise to make this team. And given the teams roster last year, Swinson was a lock as well.
yet over the summer, but were disappointingly meh.
lets hope the past few months they have shown marked improvement

I will take your knowledge of lifting as gospel. That being said, I believe he comes from a powerlifting family.

There is a difference between elevations and signing players to the 53.

We have had lots of elevations in similar circumstances. It would have surprised no one if Dippre or Swinson were elevated for the game. Vrabel has done that lots of times.

Signing a player to the 53 is another matter entirely. Sure, Jennings was elevated and then signed to the 53 when Gibson went to IR AND Stevenson was injured.

It would seem that the norm for Vrabel would have been to elevate Dippre and Swinson for Sunday's game.

Not saying its not possible but generally at that height you have fairly long arms and bench press is a lot about distance. Tall long arm guys generally are big heavy dudes to push that weight (look at the worlds strongest man competition). But hey if he is putting that up then he should be putting some guys on their butts

it would appear the players told the Pats that if they were not going to be on the 53 man roster, they had offers from other teams to be on their 53 man rosters

I agree. but in this case I believe the "match" to be don't elevate me, but assign me to the 53 man roster

It is interesting that the players had such loyalty. Like veterans Dugger and Peppers, they might have had a better chance to play elsewhere this year or next.

Does Swinson really believe that he will beat out Chaisson, Landry or Ponder for reps when he the team hasn't elevated him all season? I'm not even counting Jennings. I expect that Swinson will be inactive and MAYBE will still be on the 53 for the playoffs when Williams is back.

Dippre is a different situation. We didn't have an NFL quality TE #3 on the 53 AND TE #2 is injured. Given the situation, both he and the team should see this as a reasonable choice.

there is also a financial aspect here as well
rookie contract=$840k
practice squad contract =$13-$18k per week

Oh by the way. We have evidence. Team history under BB shows we had reporting of exactly this phenomenon. We talked about it in a thread discussing paying someone more on PS than he could earn as a starter on another team. Something BB did when the player and agent came and told him they were getting an offer. Now made illegal by league.

WHAT THE REAL THING TO TAKE FROM THIS: (assuming as I do that player or agent did in fact communicate that other interest)
…..The team chemistry is such that PLAYERS WANT TO BE HERE / STAY HERE.. They love Vrabes & Maye and anticipate WINNING. They want to remain part of that.

So that is a good thing.
