Bye Week Transactions: RB Cierre Wood and WR LaQuan Williams

Poor Collie. Just can't stay healthy.

Laquan Williams, doesn't this team have enough special teams contributors. And if their bringing in a veteran I'd rather see Molasses Micheal Jenkins return. Also depending on Gregory's health we could use another safety because were doomed if Tavon Wilson or Nate Ebner take snaps. I wonder if Kenny Phillips is healthy now?

Sucks for Collie. The rigors of the NFL just seem to be too much for his body.

So do you guys think Kenbrell will stay inactive and we'll only have "three" active WRs on gameday? (Amendola/Dobson/Edelman) and two ST only WRs (Williams and Slater)

Seems odd to carry two ST WRs on the 53, especially when Amendola/Edelman have injury histories.

Not speaking for anyone else, but I sure as heck don't.

I expect either Boyce or Thompkins will be active against the Panthers.

I keep hearing/reading, including from Mike Reiss, that Ridley is bigger than Bolden, yet both are listed at 5' 11", 220 lbs.

Are those numbers outdated or something?

More good news on Ninkovich

Christopher Price:
Just spent some quality time with Ninko. Don't think the foot is going to be a long term issue. Said bye comes at a good time.

Mary Paoletti:
Ninkovich on injury sustained Sunday: "I don't want to get into specifics." Said he feels good, practiced today. Week off should help.

And the new guy has already been indoctrinated:
Michael Whitmer:
New Patriots RB Cierre Wood declines interview request: "I can't talk." Rob Ninkovich does, says he's feeling fine.

Aqib being Aqib:
Asked if he was sail able to talk today, Aqib Talib said "NOOOO!"

Interesting tidbit:
LaQuan Williams has Wes Welker's old locker.

I wonder why they didn't bring back Quentin Sims, you have to figure that he knows the playbook better than a guy off the street who hasn't done much in his career.

Watching some Cierre Wood, he reminds me a little of Ridley in that he gets skinny through the hole with quick feet.

2 week trial signings. I know Pats have the rest of the week off but i'd imagine these two will be at Patriot Place as long as they can for the next week, which would give the coaching staff time to really evaluate them.

Wouldn't surprise me to see both cut by next Wednesday or both on the 53 for the Panthers game.

Re: Cierre Wood at practice today

I don´t like Blount. Too much Dancing Queen.

Didn't you just hate the way that with 3-4 Steelers draped over him at the 7 he just danced and danced his way into the EZ for a TD doing the Twist?

No, they don't.
Gresh pulled a Blind Squirrel this week pointing out that injuries to the starters are hurting STs. THe ST guys called up to play on the 11 tend to lose a bit of needed focus on their ST responsibilities as they focus on being on the field with the 11.

EDIT: Mike Loyko sees it the same way

Mike Loyko @NEPD_Loyko
With Duron Harmon in line for starter reps, have to think LeQuan Williams' special teams experience contributed to his signing.

It looks as if BB is trying for some badly needed Vereen pass catching, outside running with this kid, given Vereen's propensity for injury. Remains to be seen if he can be a poor man's V2.

Wood looked pretty good at ND.

Not long ago, FoxWhiskey would have been absolutely correct. But maybe Fears has gotten into his head a bit because he seems to run vertically and with a purpose now.

Is Vereen actually back yet? if not, I don't know why anybody would want to get rid of Bolden or Blount.

Even when he returns, I like having both backs in secondary roles. Bolden runs hard and can spell Ridley effectively. I'd like ridley to become / remain our "feature back" to the extent we have one, though.

Blount seems to be effective in the 2nd half, as another poster pointed out. I'd use him to spell Ridley later in games, especially if it's not very close (to limit injury risk to Ridley).

As others have mentioned, I don't like blount as a kick returner, but I don't hold that against him -- he's obviously playing a role Belichick likes him in, and I wouldn't want us to sign somebody just to try to replace him as KR.

I agree wholeheartedly. "Emily" Blount was too fancy for his speed & size. He's a downhill runner. Move the pile. Did show some speed a couple times but leave those moves to "ben" Vereen.
