Browns screw up deadline trade for AJ McCarron

What worse, screwing up the trade or throwing a 2nd and 3rd for a mediocre QB only to be like their 510th QB since 1990.
Florio on PFT suggested that one possibility how the Brownies effed-up the paperwork was on passive-aggressive-like purpose, in order to placate the HC (McCarron's OC in Cincy). According to this theory, the FO never really wanted him, but gave the impression that they did and allowed the procedure to lapse so that they would have an excuse why McCarron isn't in Cleveland today.

It would have been great to get a 2nd and 3rd for Jimmy. Is AJ really worth s better offer at this point in time?

Stupid Browns

THey have many 2nd round picks so it's probably one closer to the 3rd rounder than their original one, I guess. Their 2nd is the 2nd overall so almost a 1st.

As I said, just a guess, if it was their 2nd + a 3rd (even if its in the end of the round) that would have been equivalent to a 1st rounder in terms of draft value points.

Makes sense, McCarron didn't flash when he got the opportunity to start and he didn't replace Andy Dalton who's been mediocre this year so I think he is not very different from an Osweiller type. Jimmy G in 2 games did show much more.

If Garoppolo gets franchised tagged next March instead of agreeing to a deal before then, it’s going to cost about $20 million more than McCarron’s restricted free agent tender. That’s a big part of the disparity in real vs expected trade values.
