Everyone on this board seems to still have Matt Cassel fever. Sure, we were able to trade Matt Cassel for a 2nd, but we had to throw Mike Vrabel in, too. Brian Hoyer is worth more to this team at $1-$2MM per year than he is to any other team in the NFL.
But nobody is using Cassel as a comp. We're all using Charlie Whitehurst. He may indeed have more value to the Pats if Mallet isn't ready but I still think they can get mid third round value for him. Even nationally it's been discussed that he has value.
That is reasonable in the hypothetical, but which team do you see giving up a 3rd round pick to get Hoyer? There are a handful of teams that might be possible, but the supply of RG3, Manning and Flynn should take care of 3 teams. I only see MIA, SEA and WAS as desperately pursuing a QB. It is reasonable to assume that 2 will sign Manning/Flynn and the other will trade up for RG3.
ARZ, CIN, CLE, DEN, JAX, KC, MIN and SF may not be overly satisfied with their QB situations, but would they really want to pitch Hoyer as a legitimate upgrade over what they already have? All have invested significant resources into their current QBs. Dumping another 3rd round pick to get an unproven former UDFA doesn't seem likely to happen.
Grading the Patriots players in the 2011 season - The Boston GlobeEven if the Patriots tender him at the highest level (a first-round pick in return if he signs with another club), he could generate interest. But the Patriots love him.
Everyone on this board seems to feel like Hoyer is worth a 2nd. So why would we give him up for a 3rd? Backup QBs are worth more than you realize. Hello, Colts.
Greg Bedard thinks more highly of Hoyer than most people here:

I think Washington is the most likely. Seattle second. I don't think Miami will go with Moore and Henne. I don't think Manning will go to the NFC East. I don't see any of your secondary teams being in the Hoyer market so admittedly it's a small amount of teams in play.

If Mallet's not ready then this discussion was just a fun exercise.
Heh!! Not for ME!!
Trade'm BOTH, I say!!
There are a NUMBER of projected 7th Rounders and UFA's that interest me...
Kellen Moore, above ALL.
If we can get a 2nd and 3rd for Mallett and Hoyer, I'd be ECSTATIC!! :rocker:
The only QB I'd realistically take in this draft is Kirk Cousins. Should be a reliable backup for a team for years with game manager starter potential.

I'd love to trade them both as well but I just dont feel the love for Moore, how much would it cost us to pry Stanzi from KC?
Only in your fevered imagination are either of those statements true, my friend.
Please extend us the most BASIC courtesy of not LYING about what the rest of us have said.
Statements that begin with "Everyone" are usually false, and yours are dramatically so.
Nobody appreciates your fire and brimstone more than I, but I just wish you'd direct it more acurately.
I stand corrected: 92.3%.
