Patriots Player Departure BREAKING: Joe Milton traded to Dallas

I think everyone and their mother except apparently some Patriots fans know that his week 18 performance was a glorified preseason game and did little if anything to bolster his trade value. Would've rather just gotten him for a straight up 5th without giving up the 7th but I mean it's a 7th rounder, who cares.

"I told you so" is such an ugly phrase..... but today I am going to be dishing them out left and right.

The rate of 5th rounders making an NFL team is abysmal

Why draft Milton in first place?

Again, they can package that 5th rounder to move up.

Milton wasn't a Vrabel draft pick. McDaniels wasn't here. It was different regime. This happens all the time. Players acquired by one regime are let go in the next regime.

I think I would’ve kept him to see how he would develop under Josh and who knows maybe we catch lightning in a bottle. I always think a team should be developing a young QB in their system.

With that said I’m not sure why some think we could’ve gotten a higher pick in return., a 6th round pick, third string QB who played in one meaningless game against second and the third stringers. I doubt Dallas was the only team we had talks with which means no one was offering more.

Are you saying you predicted him to be traded? What what the reason behind that predication?

No. The Pats got ripped off.
If you say so, but we just got a 5th round pick for a practice squad player.

I personally didn't think he was worth a draft pick... don't know why anyone thought he was worth a 4th, 3rd or even a 2nd...

seems to me we did pretty well.

Week 18 meant we got a 5th rounder for Milton instead of nothing which was his value otherwise. That's a W.

Chalk this one in the "Trade Mallett for a first rounder!" category.

Ofds of a 5th rounder becoming a quality nfl starter
4-5%

So if we had 100 5th round picks, 4 might become starters

We got one compensatory 5th rounder
Essentially worthless or vest case an end of roster backup AND we gave up top of the 7th round pick
For the most valuable position in sports

Again, who says the Pats hold onto the pick. Maybe they did this to acquire picks to move up into the first with their second round pick. Or trade up in the 3rd or 4th.

Milton is/was a Mayo binkie. While we think every Patriots front office person is a dolt and should be fired, JM3 didn't bring better than a 5th is because no team offered better than a 5th. They see him perform every day, we got to see him do a good job is a game each team was trying to lose. JM may be a great athlete, but the NFL thinks he's a backup QB at best.

When you put it this way though, it kinda pisses me off that we traded the number 1 overall pick for a effing 5th round comp pick

I had some pretty intense arguments with the usual idiots in here who thought he was worth a first/second rounder.

My claim was that he was a 6th rounder last year and there is nothing that happened this past year which increased his value significantly. We wouldn't get anything more than a day 3 pick for him and in this case we gave up Milton plus a 7th and still didn't do better than a day 3 pick.
