Patriots Player Departure BREAKING: Joe Milton traded to Dallas

Yeah, I'm not too sure about this.

Seems to me that Milton was worth more to us as a player than a late 5th round pick which is always going to be a roll of the dice.

I knew the nonsense about a third was not going to happen but I don't know why you draft and develop him for a year only to trade him for a pick a round higher than you used to get him? A young, cheap, QB that you can potentially develop into a backup isn't a bad thing to have. I don't know why we needed a 5th round pick instead.

Basically getting back what we picked him for. Thats slightly disappointing. I thought he was worth at least a 4 or maybe a 5+ another late round pick but to trade him and a 7th. Bummer.

It's a fine return for him if they wanted to move the player. I just don't understand why they were seemingly in a rush to do so. With Maye having a few injuries and an aggressive playing style, it seems likely they'd keep 3 QBs next year so they've probably opened up a new need to consider in the draft now. Milton still had 3 years left so it's not like the clock was ticking. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I'd understand it more if they did it while DAL was on the clock with this pick and it was someone they really wanted to take. But right now they have no real idea who will be there. They have no idea if a new developmental QB prospect they prefer will be on the board with a pick they're willing to use. It's just a weird trade to make right now IMO.

With Maye's play style and already getting dinged up some last year, as well as general importance of the position, I'd expect that they end up with someone else holding a clipboard. Might end up being the pick they got back here going to that guy.

No matter what they tell you teams don't like another young QB threatening their top pick, they're all in on Maye they don't want anyone who can cause any sort of controversy if he struggles some of the people in the building lived thru the Mac/Zappe debacle.

If the Maye has a 2 week stretch where he throws 6/7 picks and gives a couple of games away no one is going to call for Josh Dobbs.
