The NFL and NFLPA have confirmed that Goodell is recusing himself from the upcoming Bountygate appeals. He will be replaced by former commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

Man this whole thing is dragging longer than DAYS OF OUR LIVES

Now Tags should suspend Goodell too.

It's kinda funny that whenever something important needs doing the grown-ups step in for the figurehead.

This whole Bountygate is stuck on stupid..

It's a brilliant move by the NFL, as long as they don't allow it to be used as a precedent.

Maybe Tagliabue will reinstate the pick Goodell stole from us for good measure.

this is actually pretty cool , as they were saying the reggie white smash for cash occurred under tags

good move goodell! this should end any debate about him being unfair :D

my favorite commish, goodell!

Having done so they already have. This will just embolden the hawks in the NFLPA to encourage players to take it all to litigation until they get the desired result. No need to negotiate for something you can leverage via litigation.

Once, under special circumstances, and with the clarification that it's a one-off, is not a precedent. It's an exception.

Once, regardless of circumstances, that sets up others in the future, sets a precedent.

Whether or not this is precedent depends on what happens moving forward.

LOL are you joking? The reason he has to recuse himself is because he is biased in some way. Which means this is a guy you can't rely on to come down with one of the biggest decisions concerning the NFL in years. Is that really something that gives you confidence in the commissioner's office? They had to pull Tagliabue out of retirement to handle this one!

no actually the reason he's recused himself is becuse ******s think he's biased

so this removes even those feeble minded people's excuse

game set and match...roger (and the good of the game!)

heh...yeah...Roger WEEEEEEEEEEE-UNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...right

there's that pesky word I've been using since 2007....R-E-C-U-S-E

let's take a quick look at "winner" Goodell......

...now if only he would recuse himself from the Commissioner's job.

Watch Tag hear all the evidence and double the penalty. :D

now if only he would recuse himself from the Commissioner's job.

Completely agree. He and his urchins have handled this Bountygate affair very poorly. Goodell has had the good fortune to be around as TV revenues have been skyrocketing....sort of the kind of good fortune that nimrod, Uncle Bud has enjoyed with MLB.

...now if only he would recuse himself from the Commissioner's job.

While that would be nice, don't hold your breath. He has twenty million reasons why he won't voluntarily walk away, at least not for a long time from now.

Goodell's pay set to double - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s recent five-year contract extension will, by the end of its term, roughly double his current annual pay of about $10 million, sources said.

Now, there's an independent party. What, they couldn't dig up Kenesaw Mountain Landis?

Well well well...looks like the arch corporate criminal's latest little criminal conspiracy blew up in his face...he recuses himself to grease the return of Tags but unfortunately, his puny little criminal conspiracy has been revealed...Tagliabue is in a direct conflict of interest..

On possible conflict of interest, NFL says Tagliabue isn’t a “neutral” arbitrator | ProFootballTalk

"With the ethics rules applicable to lawyers preventing a lawyer from serving as a “neutral” arbitrator in a case involving one of the clients of the lawyer’s firm, the NFL has a fairly basic and compelling response to the potential argument that former Commissioner Paul Tagliabue has a conflict of interest, based on the fact that he works for the law firm that represents the NFL in the bounty cases."

Goodell thought he could get cute...but, once again, his fumbling bumbling one eyed rhino impersonation has run him into another hornet's nest. Now, whether Tags is ruled
OK to do this or not, the fairness question just put another 10,000 pounds on that elephant in the room.
