Brandon Spikes suspended for banned substance for 4 games

And i thought the Peppers four game suspension for otc sudafed was ludicrous. If Spikes was DX'd with ADHD was taking his meds and was suspended for it its a new low in stupidty by the league. It sounds like it was common knowlage he had ADD and was under a DR's care, I could see a warning but Four games is absurd.

This is actually way less responsible than even the cold medicine excuse. There's no way an NFL player should not clear a prescription medicine with the league/team doctors. Unless he's hiding something. Come on, Spikes. What are you thinking? :ugh:

He got busted for taking ADHD medicine. Do you know what ADHD is?

It means he isn't real good at following directions, paying attention in meetings, if you give him a list of drugs he can take and can't take he ain't gonna read it.

I actually more blame the doctor who prescribed it. That doctor (obviously a private doc and not the team doctor) should have know his patient had employment with an employer that restricts certain medicines and a patient that isn't good at putting these rules together himself and not prescribed it or contacted the team first.

Disagree. The league has suspended players before for ADHD medicine, so why would Spikes be different? You've got to get it OK'd with the league if you're going to take a medicine that the league suspends people for. Period.

Its the first time ive ever heard of a player getting a suspension for an ADD med. If hes under a DR's care and has been for awhile it should be treated differently than if it was a recreational street drug. And this goes for ALL players, not just spikes.

Hurf durf. No way do I know what ADHD is. :ugh:

That's a great excuse. Except of course it doesn't work in the NFL. This is Spikes fault plain and simple, and to a certain degree the Patriots' fault for not reiterating to the players that ANY PRESCRIPTION MEDICINE NEED TO BE CLEARED.

Even guys with ADHD can figure that one out.

Come on, dude. Don't be a homer. Spikes f*cked up and he should have been suspended. He was taking a performance enhancing drug (no question about it) without the leagues approval. Popped. And deservedly so.

If it's legit, get approval. A 3 year can understand that, even one with ADHD.

In the National Football League, New Orleans Saints kicker Garrett Hartley served a four-game suspension when the 2009 NFL regular season began because he tested positive for the banned stimulant. The Arizona Cardinals tight end Ben Patrick received a four-game suspension as a result of using Adderall.[39]

And thus, I am gratefully corrected. There's gotta be a slow brickeater laying on the scrapheap somewhere, right? They truthfully just need a guy who can play like 15 snaps a game to stopgap the Mike in the 34. Sucks Spikes was an idiot, but a four week rest for a rookie could ultimately prove to be a valuable thing.

Good call. I was thinking that yesterday. Four weeks off could help Spikes prevent hitting the rookie wall. Could be great for our run defense come playoff time.

Yes, he messed. And yes he is paying the price for it.

But you have obviously not spent much time with neither 3 year olds nor folks with ADHD. Neither group is particularly good at following directions.

It is being treated differently than a recreational street drug.

Use of a prescription medicine for ADHD; or NyQuil without team approval is an automatic 4 game suspension for first offense.

Recreational use of crack or LSD is a one game suspension for the second offense.

The NFL does treat these things totally differently.

Is this a fact? Sickening.

what? you blame the doctor more than the player. i couldn't disagree more.

So the player has no responsibility in actually contacting his own team doctor or his own agent or his own manager or his own Google to find out the facts first?

Seriously, we're not talking about a minor or a mentally ******ed client who is incapable of making decisions on their own behalf.

You know rookies and all NFL players sit through conferences every pre-season to talk about this stuff? Conversely, doctors don't study the NFL banned substance list in med school.

I really hate to say this, but Spikes' has shown questionable judgment before. This is the second big mistake he's made just 3/4 of the way through his first NFL season.

Yes, he showed questionable judgement. That is par for the course with someone with ADHD.

What was the first big mistake he made during his first NFL season? I hope you are not thinking the porn cause he did that in college not in the NFL.

Yeah...he has primary responsibility. But given his problems. I think there needs to be better "handling" of him by the team and his agent to make sure things someone without this would keep straight but with him you need to double check.

Maybe Spikes OFF his meds becomes the best cover LB on the planet...

The more likely result would be him giving press conferences that makes Randy Moss seem coherent.

Can he move to DE? I think the only position someone with ADHD off his meds could play would be a pure pass rusher.

Participating in a recurring even, such as taking medication once or twice day without considering the ramifications over a long period of time can not be explained by ADHD.

Also, you are right and I was wrong, the video was made sometime before 7:30 PM on April 22, 2010. Obviously my inference is completely inadmissable and irrelevant.

Could we all admit that, Adderall, when taken for ADHD is NOT a PED??

Could we also all admit that Spikes is human??

And, lastly, Could we all admit that humans make mistakes?

Yes to all 3. Has it been confirmed he has ADHD though? Unfortunately, unless I'm missing a report, we don't know if he has it or not.

Even if he doesn't have it, points 2 and 3 of your statement still apply.

Even if he doesn't he can find a doctor who says he does pretty easily. Wouldn't mean much.

What I don't get is why this didn't turn up at the combine tests and interviews? Seems to poke a hole in the longstanding, known ADHD problem.

I just want to point out I figured it was some sort of ADD medication first yesterday :D

Not that I'm happy he is suspended, at least its not steroids.
