Brandon Lloyd meeting with 49ers: Patriots are gonna blow it

It is amazing how many fans talk about this team like it's a perennial loser.

Asking the Patriots to sign a FA WR that is a threat outside of the numbers is far from asking them to win FA.

It can't possibly be that after a decade of constantly competing, and winning more SBs than anyone else, that maybe the Patriots have figured out how to balance out bringing in new talent to improve their team yet avoid overpaying and upsetting their locker room.

I agree that we've constantly been competing.

But the era of winning more SB's than anyone else was almost a decade ago.

Since then they've lost more SB's than anyone else, and their defense has become historically bad. All hail the decision making that led us to this promised land.

I really need to start spending more time on other messageboards. Other than the Jets, do other fan bases have such a sorry ratio of dense to rational posters?

Being aware of how close the Patriots window of opportunity is to ending has made me much more hypersensitive to the Patriots holes.

God, this meme needs to die.

Another SB lost because they couldn't get off the field.

I realize that the solid performance against the all pro Tim Tebow in the playoffs may have made some people forget about their performance in the regular season, but I remember.

2 SB's lost, 1 AFC championship, all because they couldn't get off the field.

You realize that the Patriots have enjoyed a degree of success that is unparalleled by almost any other team in the league, right?

Oh, I get it. You're holding them to an impossible standard that no team in the modern era has heretofore attained.

One poster hit the nail on the head in an earlier post: How much do you pay your 4th option?

With that being said, if Lloyd wants $6 million or more per year, and he will most likely be the 4th option, is he worth it? I'm not sure of the health status of Braylon Edwards, but if he is healthy he is a big WR who can stretch the field and wouldn't take much $ to sign. I'd rather pay Edwards $1 or $2 million then pay Lloyd $6 or $7 million.

I'd rather pay Lloyd on account of the fact that he doesn't suck.

The Pats won their first SB on a last-minute drive against the #4 scoring team in the league. So what?

The Pats were 15th in points against. That means half the league was historically worser. Yeah, I said worser.

The Pats paid Ochocinco $6 million last year and Branch close to that the year before. If you would pay them $6 million a year, why not pay Lloyd when he is better than either of them?

We paid ocho 6million for 15catches....that price would be a discount for what lloyd can give us

You know why I value Lloyd highly? (yes, I know BB may not) Because he makes Gronk, Hernandez and Welker that much better!!!!!!! Can't ******* stretch the field without a deep threat, and the GIANTS proved it. I just don't want to see Branch and Ocho as our deep threats again :nono:

Enjoyed*

Since then we've won a lot of games and come up empty handed in the post season. I guess I'm happy with that. But I don't see how looking to a big name FA to push them over the top makes us bad fans.

You realize that Tom Brady is a HoF QB with about 4 years left and the Patriots need to maximize their opportunity for success during that time, because Tom Brady won't be coming through that door 5 years from now.

BB built a team that went 11-5 without Brady. This franchise is bigger than Brady. There's no point in leveraging the franchise for Brady's last few years just so we can watch this franchise go the way of the Colts after TFB is gone.

We went 11-5 against a lot of crap teams. Also, how is paying someone like Garcon, would would be a very nice upgrade in the offense, 8 million/yr leveraging the franchise?

Garçon at 8 a year is a gross overpay as are the rest of WRs in this market right now. The Pats haven't had less than 10 wins in almost a decade largely because they have refused to overspend on players (with a few exceptions).

Is this a serious question? I'll assume you are just being sarcastic and just pointing out how stupid some of these early deals have been.
