Brady speaks

Exactly. For me personally, given everything we've heard, IF Brady decides to hang it up after 2017, it really shouldn't surprise anyone. If he continues to keep playing, it shouldn't surprise anyone either. Brady himself didn't even fully commit to 45 in the quote. He can't. The 45 talk is just a way to quiet the noise because, in the end, the man simply will not announce to us or anyone outside of the team and his own inner circle when he plans to retire.

Agree completely. I am as ardent a supporter of Brady playing until his mid forties as there is, and I take at his word that is his plan at this time, but nobody knows what the future will bring and he could decide to hang them up at any time. I don't however believe he would hang the Patriots out to dry by watching them let Garrapolo go and then retiring unexpectedly. He will be honest with the Kraft's and Belichick and he will keep going if they can't replace him at that time. In other words he wouldn't watch them trade Garrapolo in August and hang them up in February.

What I do take real issue with is those who insist that Garrapolo is a franchise quarterback, when no one, including Belichick, knows whether that's the case or not. I'm sure he knows the offense inside and out, and that he's ready to betested as a starter, but any quarterback has to go through at least a couple of seasons and real adversity to show that they are a true "franchise quarterback." And the ideas repeatedly floated in this forum to get rid of Brady regardless of his play and simply because of his age and the desire some have for Garrapolo to start are complete and utter bullsh.t. You don't get rid of the best player in football just to test out your theory that someone else will just step in and they will remain great. The second Brady hangs them up the dynasty is over. They could continue to challenge for Lombardi's but the days of total dominance are done. Thanks s not a knock on Brady's successor no matter who that is, it's just the realistic realization that they will no longer have the best player in football and the greatest player in history at quarterback. And those saying they will continue to be a dynasty are acting as if Brady is just a jag and that he can be easily replaced and the dynasty will go on. Brady has earned the right to go out in his own terms, and those claiming he's just laundry show total disrespect for every thing he has accomplished and given Patriot fans.

Not true my comment was we don't know it is uncharted waters with Brady.
It's uncharted waters with Grap at the end of the day BB will make the decision that is best for the football team.
Not what is best for Tom or Jimmy.
No one has ever said BB won't do what's best for the team, just that getting rid of Brady wouldn't be what's best for the team.

Evah.

Conspiracy theory alert:
Not that I think the team would ever agree to such a thing but you don't suppose the league front office basking in the glow of all of its unquestioned and indisputable integrity would tell the team that if Brady comes to them with concussions it would be just fine to play him anyway and the league would look the other way on the protocol, not wanting to lose ratings in games without the GOAT or anything of the sort?

But if we stop the nonsense, the board would cease to exist...

I kinda like Star Trek stuff, but it's a matter of degree... I think trekkies would think of me as sort of a dilettante, because let's see, I have a job and don't live in my parents' basement, and most importantly, there are whole chunks of the future I don't know, even in broad outline.

But anyhoo I heard there's another new Star Trek series fixin' to start, so I started poking around the web.

Oh. My. Effing. Gawd.

We look positively sane by comparison. There are people on suicide watch because they heard that they changed the Klingons' look again. They have flame wars about whether a photo from the set really is supposed to be Klingons or not.

Seriously, nothing we have written this whole off-season is as convoluted or as vitriolic as the present excitation in geekdom over details of this next future, and whether it will "screw up the canon even worse."

But I did learn the reason that they said the old Klingons from Kirk/Spock's day looked different from the good Klingons they made up later. If you want to be bored, ask me. The real reason is that they got better at makeup between the late 60s and the early 80s.
