The news at the presser of that record falling really crushed Brady ("Really? I did not know that."). Sustained success versus a record that may last one year? Tough call for him.

With Manning having 2 more years played and being in a consistently weak division (though you could say the same for the AFCE too with the patriots, but I feel the overall competition was better), I would have thought that the greatest quarterback to ever play the game would have owned this record.


Some would say he just did (with the exception of Montana)

That is actually not true.
Graham, from 1946-1949 was in the AAFC where they won 4 Championships.(Beating the New York Yankees in 2 of the CGs)
Then he Browns became an NFL team, and they won 3 Championships in 6 years before he retired.

Just saw this neat tidbit on NFL.com:

Tom Brady's New England Patriots are seeking a first-round bye for the fourth consecutive season. How rare is this feat? Since 1990, only the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers (both from 1992 to 1995) made the playoffs four consecutive seasons with a first-round bye.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume neither of those teams had the kind off tumultuous off-season/injuries-to-key-players season the '13 Pats have had to overcome to (hopefully) achieve this. Also important to remember that Belichick has been completely rebuilding his defense in this period.
