Now that Gronk is out, will Brady starts (cough, cough) declining...again?
(Everyone's favorite topic.)
No he still has a safety blanket in Vereen.

This whole thread is crazy.
Brady and Edelman have been working together the longest of all NE WRs on the roster. In 2013, Brady has played 13 games and Edelman has played 13 games. They likely see the defense and adjustments the same and thats why Brady will look his way first when the chips are down.
All the other NE WRs have missed games due to injury or a healthy scratch.
Brady is back spreading the ball around just like during the Super Bowl Championship seasons.
Almendola has 63 targets and 41 receptions for 448 yards, 2 TDs for a 65% completion rate.
Dobson has 65 targets and 35 receptions for 492 yards, 4 TDs for a 54% completion rate.
Thompkins has 70 targets and 32 receptions for 466 yards, 4 TDs for a 46% completion rate.
Vereen has 55 targets and 40 receptions for 373 yards, 1 TD for a 73% completion rate.
On a high percentage out route (given the coverage) where Amendola could get open quickly. My concern is not that Brady doesn't trust him, because I don't think that's the case. My concern is whether or not Amendola is getting open quickly enough on other routes for quick strike passes that this offense typically thrives off of. If you ask me, give what was just reported, I think that might just be a legitimate concern.
Why would targets suggest locking on instead of getting open?I'm curious to know what those stats are post-gronk...that is, after gronk came back earlier this season. Because if vereen has almost as many targets just a few weeks from getting off tho up list, it suggests brady is indeed locking onto certain players.
Speaking about his safety blanket. He was only the fourth RB in the last 10 seasons to have 150 yards receiving in a single game. Brian Westbrook, Matt Forte, and Jahvid Best were the other 3.
I think the most likely answer is that his injury effects his quickness and his ability to get in and out of cuts quickly, but he still has straight line speed and can still contribute, just not the way he can when he is healthy. I doubt Brady has lost trust in him he is just not likely to be a first read and is more of an option than a target. Amendola will be back at full speed next season after he has the offseason surgery and should be a major contributor, especially if Edelman leaves in free agency as expected.
Funny I think Vereen played behind Jahvid Best at California who didn't do much in the NFL. But the other Two are Great company Vereen is an amazing Receiver from the RB position he's like a WR out there.
If it's a case of Amendola not getting open quickly enough on those routes as Brady goes through his progression, I expect it to be because his injury is hampering him as well.

A QB is supposed to throw to the open receiver. A receiver who is more adept at getting open is supposed to get more targets.
What you see with Brady over the years is different receivers get more or less targets in different games, which is because the defense they play dictates certain areas of the field, routes and play calls work better so different players get open more.
Still, 55 targets for vereen is a lot in just 3 weeks and the few snaps he played at the way beginning of the year. There is no doubt that brady has his favorites, despite what he says "my favorite receiver is the open one." I remember when gronk came back he was just trying to feed him like crazy. Even against the browns, his first INT was a gronk target where the coverage was just too good,.
Once a truth, now a myth.
And for the past half dozen years...BINKY
And this year.......Trust
The open guy myth died a long time ago
Well first it isnt 55 targets in 3 weeks, that is all season.Still, 55 targets for vereen is a lot in just 3 weeks and the few snaps he played at the way beginning of the year. Vereen has been getting open. I'm fine with him getting 450,000 targets if he's open 450,000 times. And, if I recall correctly, the INT against the Browns was a Boyce target.

Brady is easy to figure out where he will throw the ball.
Be where youre supposed to be and catch the ball and you will have more targets. Brady will trust you.
Dont be in the right spot or drop catchable balls and you wont get many throws your way. See Stinko as a perfect example.
Right now, Bolden, Vereen and Edelman are excelling in the NE passing game. Almendola is closing on that group.
Dobson and Thompkins are at a crossroads. They need to play better and in a hurry. Boyce must be showing something to get on the field.
