It's easy, and only takes a few moments. One of the funniest things you will hear said by football punditry is "receiver X was open, just simply throw the ball to him". When a QB drops back to pass, he has continuously disrupted line of sight, defenders crisscrossing his field of vision, must see where defenders are AND where they will be when the pass hits its intended target, must notice the space he has around him to be able to throw a pass (pocket), must have nearly a 180 degree cognizance for the pass rush coming into violently assault him. All that and he has maybe 5 seconds to execute a successful pass. So I'm going out on a limb to say the QB's job is just a tiny bit more complex than 'the receiver was open, just throw the ball to him!'.)
From my observation, the Offense has had trouble executing this season. Form, new players, training camp issues make of what you will. Really, I can't see the validity in not throwing to Amendola when the Patriots rolled Brady out and he hit Amendola for the game winning score against the Browns.

You know, it's pretty amazing how well Brady has performed these last few years given how much he's sucked over that time according to Patsfans. Can't throw the deep ball, can't read the D, locks in on guys, blah blah blah.
Never mind that his production from 2007-now is arguably the most productive stretch any QB has ever had.
As for Nick Underhill, I like Nick, but he should stop taking stupid pills. The screen grab he posted was asinine. Based on the grab alone, it's clear to see one reason why Brady wouldn't throw to Amendola right then, and I'm not even an X & O guy - the Browns look to be in zone and the guy near Boyce could jump the Amendola route and grab a pick-6. That's about as definitive a statement I'll make about a play, because I don't want to make the same mistake as Nick, by talking about football at a level I'm not qualified to do.
Polian contends that it takes 3 years to develop an NFL passing offense. Having these guys do it on the fly should produce some head scratching.
Which is why on the game winning TD they called a play that rolled Brady out and made Amendola the only potential receiver.Clearly what we have here is Amendola being phased out of the offense.
