It seems as if Bourne will be ready for camp, probably limited. They could keep him eligible for PUP, but I don't see him being sidelined for that long. We re-signed him expecting him to play. Of course, he could be placed on IR during camp.

Personally, I expect Bourne to be on the 53-man roster to start the season. We'll like carry 5 WR's. There should be no issue with Bourne being inactive for a couple of weeks or longer. With Gibson being able to line up as a WR, I could see us sometimes activating only 3 WR's, especially if we can sign a RB.

THE FOUR IN ADDITION TO BOURNE
Douglas, Osborne, Polk, Baker

OPTIONS FOR A POSSIBLE #6 (I'd rather carry an additional RB)
Shuster (no cost insurance; actually, we save $2M in 2024 cap money)
Thornton
Reagor

AN ASIDE
If a healthy Shuster is really our #2 or #3, we could decide to keep him this year and possibly next. I would think that we would then trade Osborne. We don't need more for 2025 than Douglas, Bourne, Polk, Baker and a healthy Shuster. (For me, Thornton is a better #6 than Osborne).

I expect that Osborne was brought in to replace Shuster, full stop. If Shuster looks good in camp, some team will trade for him (with the cap savings available in 2025).

I’m not writing off Boutte or Thornton yet.

New coaching staff, new offense, a year of pro football experience under their belts.

They have talent.
If there are two injuries or trades, then I suppose that team would consider keeping Boutte on the 53-man roster, always to be inactive, as a developmental player. I have Thornton as our "solid" #7, possibly getting a roster spot if Shuster is moved. Even then, he would be the #6.

Maybe there is a list for those with legal and other non-injury issues.

If he goes on IR during camp doesn’t that mean he is there for the season? I think I remember that being the case in the past, that to come off IR during the season a player has to have previously been on the active roster after camp. Or did that get changed? So if that is the case there’s good reason to keep him in PUP.

Had the same thought, but who to cut? I could see them keeping 6 and trying to sneak a couple on PS (Boutte/Thorton)?

up to 2 players can be put IR for 4 weeks before Game One and still be eligible to play during the season. I could see Bourne being a week or two away from being on the 53-man roster.

Coming off last year pass I am sure that mystery Team will seek other alternatives. P.s. it sounds like Bourne won't be ready for TC you should be hoping that Tyquan get's it at the very least he should have more upside than Juju. But I'm not holding my breath on either.

Nice post: sometimes it's the one we think very little of who becomes the biggest surprise. IF Boutte shows something we are playing with house $$$$$$. Reminds of couple of plants in my garden I can't tell you how many times my expectations was shot for the wrong plant. The plant who I initially looked at like this performed better than the one I looked at like this. A lesson learned is hard to forget.

Who really cares about using an IR slot to squeeze through a 6th WR we don't even really have a WR1. We're better served having more competition in camp and having them all available to build some connections with Brissett and the rookie QBs.

Agreed. KB as Curran mentioned will likely start on PUP. So I think we carry 6 WR'S with that in mind. KJ, pop, polk& baker, snafu- juju, Thornton.. ?

Kinda like stuck in park?... eagles probably told him the likely good of him making the team was about same odds a Patricia calling offense plays again. I like Boutte.. he just needs to mature

Bourne's worst nightmare is one or more of the combo of Polk, Baker, Thornton, Osbourne or Boutte emerging. The only thing that would save him is an injury to Douglas where Bourne mostly played in SF.

I honestly believe KB is fine. He's a roster lock. He's part of the culture of the locker room and he will help Drake immensely. The likely hood of Thornton doing any note worth is slim.

i don't know...he was looking at some pretty nice drip the other day. at least i think that's what they called clothes shopping.

If the team were to cut him if someone looks good, Bourne would take his guaranteed $5.5M, say thank you, and play for someone who appreciates him more.

There is exactly ZERO chance of Bourne, Douglas, Polk, Osborne or Baker being cut.

Yes, it is possible that Boutte, Thornton, Reagor or Shuster might make it to the 53. but that would affect Bourne not at all. He is a locker room leader and will be so through 2027, the end of his current contract.

Yeah I know.. he had his whole singing bonus around his neck too..lol

It usually takes a full year to return a knee 100%, he may start off slow like Juju did last season.

The good news for Bourne, if you can call an injury good news, is that he injured his knee and immediately had surgery last season pretty early in the season. He's had some time to rehab.

KJ Osborn is a Bourne clone so we shouldn't skip a beat. I think he's a FA Steal he's solid and still young.

I thought we were going to let Bourne walk in FA we know BB would have. I won't forget what BB made Fat Patricia do that guy what goes around comes around. Bourne had his best year in 2021 he still have plenty left.
