Nice. Hope he can make it 2 in a row.

Re: Bodden = AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Shouldn't he be Special Teams player of the week? His teammates joked with thim that he caught three fair catches.

Re: Bodden = AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Saw that one coming a mile away. Well deserved.

Re: Bodden = AFC Defensive Player of the Week

I think Santa Sanchez should share in the honor for giving Bodden those three gifts.

Re: Bodden = AFC Defensive Player of the Week

I had a the thought when PATs signed Leigh that he would do well
working under a coach like BB. He has.
Congratulations Leigh Bodden! keep up the great work.

Bodden needs one more INT and 6 more passes defensed to equal Hobbs and O'Neil's COMBINED totals from last year. Sheesh.

Ca..........ching

Re: Bodden = AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Painful, but true.

Based on what he has said, i'm trying to be optomistic that Bodden will stick around if the $$ is close to his market value. Hes been in some pathetic organizations so hes seen some bad situations. Here is to hoping!

I agree with you, and hope he'll stay where it's good, after bouncing around. But I also remember 2006 when Asante Samuel was racking up all of those INTs and every one raised the price to re-sign him.

more than likely he'll stay, remember asante samuel started his career with the Pats and decided to venture out and he doesn't know how good he had it with the Patriots. A guy like Bodden whose been on teams such as the Browns and the Lions more than likely won't taking winning for granted. I think this is a guy who cares more about winning rather than landing that next big paycheck.

I don't know...He went to the Eagles. Not a bad team with a loyal and vocal (if not borderline insane) fanbase.

It's not like he signed with the Lions or 49'ers or something.

Agreed. Iggles is a class org, consistient winner and almost made it to the Sb last year.

I agree with you. I think Bodden wants to be paid (and more importantly, valued), but he's not a mercenary the way Samuel was. I think something in the range of what Jabari Greer (4 years, $23M) or Dominique Foxworth (4 years, $28M) got will do the trick. So somewhere around $6-7M/year, which seems to be the going rate for quality (but not franhise) CBs.

Bodden is making $2.25M this year. Springs is making $1.75 after his bonus. Sanders is due to make $2.3M next year. Kyle Arrington and Brett Lockett have shown they can play and can provide depth at CB and S for a fraction of the cost ($310K each this year). Sanders and Springs are expendable, and not cost-effective for where they sit on the depth chart. Those 3 salaries total $6.3M, which should be in the ballpark of what it may take to resign Bodden.

Wow. Foxworth got $16m in guaranteed $$.

Bodden is 28. That may be in the range of reasonable...

I thought that was a reach at the time. Some of these contracts will come back to bite teams.

Philadelphia just extended Winston Justice for 4 years at $18.15M. Justice has admittedly played well this year at RT for the Eagles, but prior to this he has been a turnstyle. Stacey Andrews was a healthy scratch last week, after the Eagles signed him in the offseason (coming off of knee surgery) to a 6 year $38.9M contract. His brother Shawn has been injured this year, and was signed to a 7 year contract extension in 2006 worth $40M. And last offseason they traded for Bills OT Jason Peters and signed him to a 6 year $60.65M contract with $24M guaranteed. That's an awful lot of money to be throwing around on your OL.

Re: Bodden = AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Great note here:
Leigh Bodden named AFC defensive player of the week | ProFootballTalk.com

Sanchez completed only eight passes all day, and Bodden caught as many passes from Sanchez as the Jets' leading receivers on the day, Jericho Cotchery and Dustin Keller.

I'm not sure if that's ever happened before for a QB playing a full game, but it gives me a happy feeling

Bodden is the Jets' top receiver!

Re: Bodden = AFC Defensive Player of the Week

if he end's the year with only the 5 INT's i say about 6 million a year will bring him back

but i think he will have about 8 INT's at the end of the season and that will get him 7 or 8 million a year on the open market will the pats pay that much ?

im sure if he hit's the open market the fish and the jets will make the price a bit higher for the pats

Re: Bodden = AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Bodden has been very good but lets face it,Sanchez practically played throw and catch with Bodden in that game.

I say congratulations to him and want to see him win more, but if you want to crown any Patriot a player of the week then Wes Welker with nearly 200 yards receiving deserves the offensive honor as much if not more.
