Re: Bodden = AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Its going to be another value decision. Bodden TURNED DOWN a long term deal with the winning Pats in 2009 for the chance at a big pay day in 2010. Wilhite, Butler and Wheatley are your 2010 CBs.

You may be right Herron. Would not be suprised in the least. My only hope is that the Pats winning is enough of a lure to keep him here (as well as a reasonable market offer).

Re: Bodden = AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Problem is, the market is not reasonable. There is always a team in need ready to lay out big bucks in hopes of commensurate performance. Our success has not been in these players (AD), but in the McGowans, Bakers, etc.

Re: Bodden = AFC Defensive Player of the Week

You'd have to wonder what would beat 3 interceptions.. including a pick 6. Hopefully we'll have another defensive player of the week against the Saints.

It's not clear what the Pats offered Bodden. I doubt it was anything like the deals that Greer or Foxworth got, as we didn't have the cap room for those kind of deals at the time. My guess is that it was something closer to the Shawn Springs deal, and that Bodden chose a 1 year deal to prove his worth.

No one else was offering him better money last spring. He visited early, left without a contract, and only signed a couple of weeks later after other CBs had secured the fat deals. He's made it clear that he likes it in NE and would prefer to stay here if possible. So I think it's by no means clear what will happen.

Re: Bodden = AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Congrats to Bodden and to the Team Defense which helped set this up by picking Sanchize up by his ankles and shaking him until the ball and his hot dog money fell out. :rocker:

Re: Bodden = AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Bodden is probably going to cash in at around 7-8M per year. And if he can keep playing at this level, he's well worth the money. He will be tested by Brees and the Saints receiving corps which might not be as topheavy in talent might is probably deeper overall than the Pats.

I wouldn't think he'd be cashing in at that amount.. here or anywhere else to be brutally honest. System versus player will be talked about no doubt.

Re: Bodden = AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Bodden, when he signed:

In an interview on Sirius NFL Radio, Bodden said he was looking for a longer deal, but it wasn't in the cards. Still he was happy to join the Patriots.

"This year's market wasn't that great with teams not spending what they normally would," Bodden told the hosts of Sirius' Moving the Chains. "So I decided to sign a one-year deal instead of a longer term deal I wouldn't be happy with down the road."

Springs will also be here in '10. But yeah I also see Bodden getting a great deal somewhere unfortunately.

I know there will be a cap hit if hes cut but I wouldn't put that one in the bank just yet.

Re: Bodden = AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Shouldn't he be Special Teams player of the week? His teammates joked with thim that he caught three fair catches.

lmfao

All credit to Bodden, but honestly none of those were really good INTs.

Polamalu picking Kerry Colins in Week 1.... now THAT`s a nice INT

That`s only one side of the story.

Some of our failures are also due to NOT laying out big bucks.

Deion Branch trade to Seattle... In the long term we got a good draft pick for it, but we also may have missed out on our 4th SuperBowl Ring due to it.

Brady to Caldwell anyoneÉ

Last time I checked, an acrobatic interception was the same as a "standard" interception.

Congrats to Bodden! I'd like to see him stick around but it doesn't sound promising. Owell-as long as he keeps it up for us this season I'll be happy

Why doesn't it sound too promising? We very well may be coming up on an uncapped year. If his recent play continues, he'll probably be resigning.

Not only that, did you see his stuff on All Access? He seems mightily relieved to be here and they treat him well (everyone, in fact).

Also, here's Crennel talking about him (love how Ian R. can stretch one interview into a weeks worth of articles, lol).

Bodden credits his time with Crennel, the former Patriots defensive coordinator, with transforming him from a reserve to a star. Armed with a one-year, $2.25 million contract, he has 37 tackles with five interceptions. Thanks to last week’s three, he’s tied for third in the NFL.

“That’s a pretty good day’s work to get three of them,” Crennel quipped. “To keep him from getting a big head, I also see where he’s giving up some plays, too.”

In Cleveland, Bodden rose under Crennel’s varied scheme brought from his time with the Patriots. It called for Bodden to do it all, though he stood out blanketing the elite receivers man-to-man.
