I am critiquing his play in AZ. As they say, you can't make the team from the tub:

BTW - that one good year, 2020, the Cardinals were 8-8 and missed the playoffs.

If Belichick and the Pats had done this with these results, you'd rightfully be unhappy with this signing.
Yep arrow is pointing down if you ask me fools gold right there.

1. He's gonna get over market value money.
2. You've got too many of the same guy. Bourne could take that role. Thornton is the only burner. Everyone's else speed is average
If Meyers type receivers grew on trees, there'd be a lot more of them in the NFL. We don't know that Bourne could do what Meyers does. So many teams struggle with #2 guys who aren't sharp on their routes and they don't know what spaces to exploit. It would be a big mistake for the Patriots to lose Meyers. Luckily, I'm not sure anyone outside of Vegas knows his value. Better hope the Bills don't get him. He'd be a massive upgrade over Gabe Davis.

Gabe Davis is a Deep threat no comparisons there also 20 career TD's to Meyers 8.

Gabe Davis and Jakobi Meyers are two different types of receivers. Davis more a traditional boundary receiver whereas Meyers plays mostly out of the slot (528 out of 679 snaps in 2022), and the Bills already have Isaiah McKenzie and Khalil Shakir for that role. You don’t have to worry about Buffalo snatching him, they have more pressing needs.

I live in Buffalo and listen to the people close to the team all the time. Davis is a sloppy route runner, drops way too many balls, most people are very down on the guy, and all the talking heads discuss is the EXTREME need for a guy who can be the possession guy, a guy who can consistently get open, opposite Diggs. McKenzie?????? Uh... do you even watch the Bills play? McKenzie is so far down the depth chart, it'll be a miracle if he's even on the team next year.

Bills are not happy with him. They already have a deep threat in Diggs. They need a reliable guy with sure hands, a guy who can get open. You described precisely why Meyers would be a huge upgrade for them.

As for career TDs, let me throw this at you: the Patriots QBs have thrown a combined 44 TD passes in the last 3 years. Josh Allen has thrown 108. That's not because Gabe Davis is a much better WR than Meyers.

I'd take Davis 10 times out of 10 over Meyers who's nothing special. In 2021 Gabe Davis had 200yds against the Chiefs in the playoffs yeah he really sucks.

Everyone knows that every other team's WRs are better than the scrubs here in Foxboro.

I am going on record saying I hope Mr. Shop for the groceries BB let Meyers walk in FA we need much better to compete with the Iron.

My apologies, I’m only going by the data which indicated McKenzie led the team in snaps at the slot last season.

Probably explains why they brought in a washed Cole Beasley late in the year.

Though I was well aware of Davis’ shortcomings as a receiver. Fact of the matter is he is a different style of receiver (there to take the top off the defense) and Meyers doesn’t solve that problem as a short/intermediate route runner. Diggs plays all over the field. I wouldn’t be surprised if they upgrade the Davis role through the upcoming Draft.

Quick?? Was Meyers ever offered an extension?? IF he was and rejected it he ain't getting another Patriots' offer the writing is on the wall. Players are very disingenuous in a contract year and most times go to the highest bidder. Ps the Colts already Extended WR Michael Pittman which tells me Meyers want a payday.

Name a Patriots WR in the BB era who went to be all world for their next Team?? Still waiting.....

Buyer Beware!

Interesting, Gronk lives in New England? He used the word "here" when describing the changes being made to the Patriots. There's a red barn in the bank, evergreen trees. I know he only had an apartment in Tampa based on an article I read about visiting his Mom who lives in the Naples area.

He also visited Boston hospitals around Christmas

Meyers is always open and catches everything. I would take that type of guy any day of the week.

He wasn't in the tub, he was suspended, which presumably won't happen again. In 10 NFL seasons Hopkins has missed significant time only once due to an injury. He's been a durable player in his career. And his 115 receptions and 1407 yards would rank 4th all-time in both for single season marks in Patriots franchise history. We wouldn't be unhappy with that. This season the Patriots top totals were 69 receptions and 804 yards. Patriots haven't had anyone close to 100 or 1000 since Edelman did it with Brady in 2019 (100-1117).

But I guess Hopkins sucks now that he'll never be a Patriot because BOB is the OC. I'm waiting for someone to say BOB will turn Thornton into the next Hopkins.

I did I D.I.D.

If Meyers was always open and catches everything we'd be much better on Third Downs. Meyers is very overrated here and that's a fact.
Compared to Gabe Davis he does catch everything. Meyers' career catch percentage is 68. Davis is 54. Davis catches about half the balls thrown to him. That sucks.

Buyer Beware!
I sarcastically stated that everyone else's wideouts are better than the Patriots'. That is statistically not even accurate a little bit. I am not going to sit here and covet some other team's scrub WR #3, #4, or #5 because he plays someplace not Foxboro.

Now, I am also not going to say that Bill is good at identifying, drafting, and developing wide out talent. He's not. I have stated here many times that he sucks at it, and it's his Achilles Heel when it comes to his resume. Like many people here, I am hoping that changes will BoB here, but I seriously doubt it. It's not how Bill builds his roster, it never has been, and most likely never will be. You can throw shade at the man all day long, but he kept this roster competitive for 20 years, which is the exact opposite of what the NFL system is designed to do. Yes, Brady covered up a lot of sins. Belichick is not perfect and he has not gotten them back to competing at the highest level since Brady left. Other than Joe Gibbs, not one coach has done it.

I do think that if a *good* team with a top shelf QB pays Meyers a ton of money, he will likely thrive. More than likely, he will go to some middle of the road team and he will continue to be what he is: a serviceable NFL receiver.
